GMB Piers Morgan slammed for 'idiotic' Boris Johnson question in tense Gove chat

Good Morning Britain star Piers Morgan infuriated fans today as he and Susanna Reid grilled Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Michael Gove about what the government were planning to do while Prime Minister Boris Johnson is in hospital with coronavirus.

He asked Gove who would be in charge while Boris is in hospital, and he confirmed it would be Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Dominic Raab.

Piers pushed for another answer as he asked who would push the button for a nuclear strike, annoying fans with the question as they took to social media to slam him for being “idiotic”.

One fan posted: “Why is Piers Morgan talking about nuclear strikes ffs?”

Another added: “Ffs he’s now asking about nuclear strikes good 4 gove refusing 2 answer how he is wanting. Gove already said responsibilities fall 2 Raab.”

A third chipped in: “Who would push the button in a nuclear attack? Yeah Piers…thats been the question the whole nation was been wondering. What a dope!”

A fourth said: “The man is in hospital and they know that Dominic Raab is standing in but all they can focus on is who will press the nuclear button.”

Piers saw the backlash on social media and defended himself on the show, as he told fans it was an important question to ask because the country is in uncertain times.

Gove said: “I’m not going to answer the question in the way you want me to, this is a matter of national security and we don’t talk about that.

“I know what you’re thinking, another politician refusing to answer the question, well I am, because there are established protocols, we don’t talk about them in a way that might give people who are our enemies any chance to get hold of it.”

Piers replied: “I certainly don’t want to argue with you on a day like this, what I will say to that answer is actually under normal circumstances, it is quite clearly the Prime Minister [who makes the decision].

“In America, if the President is incapacitated, then the power would fall to the Vice President, there is a clear line of command.

“I think what may concern people, and I’m not imagining in a million years we’re going to have to use our nuclear system, but it is there

“The PM would normally be the person who uses it, and it raises the question of who ultimately has power in the country, particularly given that person may have to make gigantic decisions over the coming weeks.”

Gove brought the conversation to an end as he said: “I hope I have been clear, Dominic Raab is in charge, and we don’t talk about national security.”

GMB continues tomorrow at 6am on ITV.
