Idris Elba suggested quarantine could be an annual event, following his recovery from Covid-19 earlier this year.
The 47-year-old Luther star tested positive for coronavirus during filming in Mexico but managed to recover from the virus after several weeks.
Discussing the global lockdown, Idris insisted an annual quarantine could serve as a reminder of those affected by the virus.
Speaking to the Associated Press, he said: “I think that the world should take a week of quarantine every year just to remember this time. Remember each other. I really do.
“I think it’s… other species use it. It’s called hibernation. But it does remind you that the world doesn’t tick on your time.”
Idris’ wife, model Sabrina Dhowre Elba, 29, also tested positive for the virus after she decided to self-isolate with her husband.

Reflecting on their experience of the deadly virus, Idris explained: “It’s been about six weeks from the beginning to this point right now for us, where it’s essentially our lives turned around.
“Definitely scary and unsettling and nervous. And I think that’s been like a real collected world experience.
“You know, everyone’s sort of feeling the way we have been feeling, but it has definitely been sort of just a complete upheaval.”

Dhowre Elba added: “But thankfully we were extremely lucky to be able to get very mild cases of Covid and the outpouring of support and all of the people who have reached out to us, it’s just been overwhelming.”
As UN Goodwill Ambassadors, the A-list couple are helping the organisation to raise £160million for farmers affected by the outbreak in rural areas.
Dhowre and Idris, who both have family roots in Africa, are determined to reduce the spread of the virus in remote areas of the continent.

Discussing a recent visit to Sierra Leone, Idris said: “If you imagine being in a village where no one even knows the name of your village or your population, and that you live in a slum where there is one room and six of you live in it, social distancing is almost laughable.”
Dhowre added: “What we are really worried about at the moment, and why we are launching this fund is that those people are being forgotten.”
