Kate Winslet mocked as she gives coronavirus advice after starring in Contagion

Kate Winslet has shared her pearls of wisdom on dealing with the coronavirus pandemic after learning about the importance of personal hygiene while preparing for her role in the 2011 movie Contagion.

The actress, alongside Matt Damon, starred in the flick which focuses on a deadly virus which the US Center for Disease Control struggles to stop from spreading, and a worldwide panic ensues.

Despite her best efforts to share her worldly advice to the masses, she was mocked by Twitter users as they didn’t think she was qualified to be sharing advice to a global audience.

While only starring in the flick, and having no previous medical training, many thought she was unfit to have a voice on the life-threatening crisis.

Some didn’t want to take the star’s advice, because, referencing her character in Titanic, Rose could have saved Jack by sharing the door she was floating on, as many argue there was clearly room for two people on it.

One playfully quipped: “Kate Winslet is giving Covid-19 advice because she played a part in a film where there was a pandemic. In that case I’m going to teach you all about how to survive a volcano eruption by showing you dead body positions like the part I played in a school play of Pompeii.

“Kate Winslet f***ing died in Contagion! I’m taking no advice from her,” another added.

While a third chipped in: “Oh good I was hoping that a person with zero qualifications in epidemiology would advise me on something they know absolutely nothing about.”

“Kate Winslet also starred in the film Titanic about a boat sinking, so will be giving us tips tomorrow morning on how to survive at sea,” a fourth wrote.

During the three-minute video posted on Sky News’ Twitter page, the British starlet urged people to wash their hands.

She said: “Right now, the health of our society is quite literally in your hands.”

In the clip she spoke about her role in Contagion, explaining she played an epidemiologist trying to stop the spread of a hypothetical virus, and to prepare for the role she “spent time with some of the best public health professionals in the world”.

Kate shared the advice given to her by the experts, which was “wash your hands like your life depends on it” because “right now, in particular, it might”.
