Naya Rivera was 'happy and busy' weeks before Glee star vanished on boat

Glee star Naya Rivera seemed “happy and busy” before her suspected death, it has been claimed.

Rivera was reported missing after a day out on Lake Piru in Ventura County, California, yesterday.

Alarms were raised when the 33-year-old failed to return a rental boat that she had hired for a trip with her four-year-old son, Josey.

It’s believed that the pair went for a swim in the lake but Naya failed to resurface and her son was later found unaccompanied and asleep on the vessel wearing his lifejacket.

Law enforcement agencies in the area fear that Naya had drowned as she was not wearing a lifejacket.

She is presumed dead by police.

Speaking to People Magazine, sources close to the actress have said that they are still unaware of her whereabouts.

They said: “Everybody is in a wait-and-see pattern and trying to figure out exactly what happened.”

After speaking to Rivera weeks before her disappearance, the source continued: “She seemed happy, busy … just kind of living life.”

Naya, who most recently starred in the YouTube Red series Step Up: High Water, has put her personal life ahead of work in recent years, with a pal of the star saying: “Her son comes first. That’s apparent in everything she’s posted and done.

“Everything is about her son.”

Ventura County Deputy Sheriff Chris Dyer told US media how Lake Piru was a “sanctuary” for Naya who had been visiting the location for some years.

Dyer went on to say that the mission is a “search and rescue operation” and that recovery teams are hoping for the best but are preparing for the worst.

“There was no collision or signs of struggle,” he said.

“We are using our helicopters, we are using our dive teams, we are using sonar equipment and our unmanned aerial drone team.

“It’s extremely difficult to search this lake, it goes from depths of 40ft to 5ft.”
