Sam Lloyd dead: Scrubs star dies at 56 after battling an inoperable brain tumour

Scrubs actor Sam Lloyd has died at the age of 56.

Show creator Bill Lawrence confirmed the news on Friday via Twitter with an emotional post, which read: “Thinking a lot about Sam Lloyd today. (Ted). Truly such a kind, sweet guy. He will be missed by so many.”

Sam played quirky lawyer Ted Buckland in 95 episodes of the long-running American comedy series, which was set at a hospital.

Lloyd starred alongside an incredible cast of actors on the show including Zach Braff and Donald Faison.

Lloyd, who was the nephew of Back To The Future star Christopher Lloyd, had been battling an inoperable brain tumour since last year.

Scrubs producer Tom Hobert and his wife had previously established a GoFundMe page to raise money for Sam to support him with his health struggles.

Lloyd was diagnosed with inoperable cancer in January 2019.

The news came just weeks after he and his wife had welcomed their first child Weston together.

The actor had begun to suffer with headaches, which he initially attributed to having a newborn.

However, after losing 10lbs and the headaches persisting, he decided to go the doctor’s, and they performed a CT scan.

The scan revealed a mass on the brain, and within a day, he was taken in for surgery.

Unfortunately, the doctors were unable to remove the tumour, due to it being too intertwined.

Lloyd and his wife were then informed the cancer had metastasized from his lungs. Additional scans showed the cancer was also in his liver, spine, and jaw.

In addition to acting, Sam was an accomplished singer and starred in acapella group, The Blanks.

His former co-star Zach shared a video of the band in action on his Twitter page on Friday, as he paid tribute to the late star.

He also appeared on a number of other TV programmes as well as Scrubs, including Desperate Housewives, Cougar Town, and the character Ricky on Seinfeld.

Lloyd is survived by wife Vanessa and son Weston.
