Steve Irwin daughter Bindi trolled for getting married amid coronavirus outbreak

Steve Irwin’s daughter has been criticised for getting married during the coronavirus pandemic.

Bindi Irwin, 21, tied the knot with longterm beau Chandler Powell, 23, yesterday.

The happy couple shared a gorgeous heartfelt snap locking lips after becoming a married couple, but some Twitter users slammed them for marrying during the current Covid-19 crisis.

Despite Bindi confirming they had no guests at the wedding, the trolls missed the point and criticised the couple for not “social distancing”.

One said: “How’s that social distancing working for you? Nice umbrella cluster.”

While another wrote: “Sweetheart if you didn’t have guests, you had enough photographers to film the Olympic games opening ceremony from innumerable angles.”

However, Bindi’s devoted fans rushed to defend the media personality after she confirmed in the post that they had a “small ceremony”.

One said: “Y’all coming for Bindi Irwin who had NO guests at her wedding and got married on site at the zoo where she lives are so nasty.”

While another wrote: “If any of you speak ill of Bindi Irwin for having her wedding despite the pandemic, it’s ON SITE. They didn’t have any guests and it was at the zoo where they basically live.”

Bindi clarified in an Instagram post that their wedding was small and without guests, so was appropriate amid the pandemic.

She said in a statement to her 3.4m followers: “March 25th 2020.

“We held a small ceremony and I married my best friend. There are no words to describe the amount of love and light in my heart right now. We’ve planned this beautiful day for nearly a year and had to change everything, as we didn’t have guests at our wedding.”

The Crocodile Hunter’s daughter explained how tough the decision to change the wedding was, saying: “This was a very difficult decision but important to keep everyone safe. We wish all of our friends and family could have been there with us, however it’s lovely that we will be able to share photos and videos.

“Right now we’re encouraging the world to hold onto hope and love, which will carry us forward during this profound time in history. Today we celebrated life and revelled in every beautiful moment we shared together in our Australia Zoo gardens.

“Mum helped me get ready, Robert walked me down the aisle, Chandler became my husband and together we lit a candle in Dad’s memory. We shared tears and smiles and love. Thankfully, since we all live at Australia Zoo as a family, we could be there for each other.

“To everyone reading this – stay safe, social distance and remember LOVE WINS!”
