BBC’s The One Show was back tonight and hosts Alex Jones and Gethin Jones were speaking to some of the stars from the new Celebrity Gogglebox series.
Gyles Brandreth and Maureen Lipman and Martin Kemp and son Roman Kemp spoke to the presenters in the studio.
Alex, 43, said to Martin: “It must have been nice as well just to have Roman home, even if it was just to record this?”
Martin responded: “It is the best thing. You know, when he came home, I’ve been showing him what I’ve been doing around the garden and just to see him and talk to him face-to-face rather than digitally was so nice, yeah.”
Martin and Roman and then joined Maureen and Giles in acting out famous television scenes.
Maureen’s Gemma Collins TOWIE impression from her now world-famous “you ain’t never gonna get this candy” speech went down incredibly well with viewers.
However, despite the laughs, some The One Show fans were not happy about the fact that the Gogglebox stars would be nipping round to each other’s houses amid the coronavirus lockdown.
Taking to Twitter, one viewer raged: “Oh you *can* swing into another household and sit in their living room with them as long as you’re on different sofa?”
They then later added: “It really winds me up that nobody sees it. If they do it all the time on ‘family’ programmes like #gogglebox – surely a non essential broadcast – people are going to stop seeing the boundaries. But I suppose it’s no different from the soaps resuming filming.”
While another questioned: “How is it possible for them to record the celebrity episodes without breaking covid rules?”
A third added: “So can we now go and watch tv with members of our family living in a different household? #iamconfused #theoneshow.”
New government social distancing guidelines state that up to six people from different households are allowed to meet up as long as it’s in public and private outdoor spaces, while ensuring to keep two metres apart.
The new Celebrity Gogglebox series starts at 9pm on Friday.
