Flick on the telly in the morning and chances are you’ll see Owain Wyn Evans’ cheery face looking back at you.
The Welsh broadcaster joined BBC Breakfast as a cover weather presenter back in February this year.
Ever since then, he’s been as much a British breakfast staple as cornflakes and coffee – and a well-dressed one at that, often stepping into snappy three-piece suits to take the stage.
When Owain made his debut as a cover presenter, he raced to Twitter to share the great news:
“I am very excited to say that I’m presenting my first @BBCBreakfast weather tomorrow morning!” he said on the social media platform.
In an exclusive interview with the Express, the Ammanford-born journalist opened up about nabbing the job that sees him share a screen with the likes of Carol Kirkwood and Matt Taylor.
The friendly presenter stands in on Scottish weather presenter Carol’s days off.
But a lot of fans have jumped to conclusions about the 37-year-old landing his “dream” role and Owain has set the record straight.
To start off with, he praised the show and his new job: “It’s been so lovely. BBC Breakfast is the biggest breakfast TV show and it gets a great audience. I’ve always liked the look and feel of it as well”.
Owain also admitted that BBC Breakfast viewers had so far received him well.
“The response I’ve had from the audience has been really lovely as well. I think, for me, it’s always been about being authentic and trying to be myself as much as I can on air”, he shared.
However, Owain added that some viewers of the popular BBC morning show were a little mixed up about his experience.
They think the former Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel celeb guest has just started out, but he’s actually been presenting the weather for years.
Owain joined the team at BBC Wales Today in 2012, going on to present forecasts in other BBC regions, and then becoming the lead weather presenter for BBC North West Tonight.
“People see me popping up for BBC Breakfast and think, ‘Oh he’s just started doing this. He’s new’”.
“But I started doing weather back in 2012… Since then, I’ve always thought about things that I’d really love to do and BBC Breakfast has been one of them”.
