Bridgerton has wowed fans with its sumptuous 19th Century sets and costumes since it arrived on Netflix on Christmas Day, already becoming the most-watched series ever on the streaming platform.
But, as viewers continue to watch and rewatch the scandalous drama between the Bridgerton family, some have spotted what they deemed a money-saving exercise by the show’s makers.
In a video posted to TikTok, a fan took a deep-dive into a scene featuring leads Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page.
The duo, who play Daphne Bridgerton and the Duke of Hastings respectively, could be seen appearing in court before the Queen.
This was then compared to season four of the hugely-popular show The Crown, in a scene when Princess Diana (Emma Corrin) skates through a hall in Buckingham Palace.
“The scene where Simon and Daphne talk to the queen about getting married is also a scene from season 4 of The Crown,” one eagle-eyed viewer declared.
“Yes!” another replied. “I think it’s filmed from the opposite side of the room as the portrait of the Queen that Diana stops to look at is on the other side of the room!”
As the conversation continued others correctly pointed out that both scenes were filmed in a stately home in London called Lancaster House.
The plot thickened when viewers went on to realise that Queen Elizabeth II’s (Olivia Colman) office was also the very same one the Duke used in Bridgerton.
“I guess they saved on the budget by sharing sets!” another viewer wrote alongside their TikTok video.
“They didn’t even change out the photos,” one fan joked, in reference to the seemingly similar pictures on the walls.
Both The Crown and Bridgerton are expected to return to filming when restrictions allow in the current coronavirus pandemic.
The Crown season five will see the characters recast into another generation, and will delve into Princess Diana’s life post-divorce.
Elsewhere, Bridgerton season two will focus on the eldest sibling and his burgeoning love story.
Fans will have to wait and see what changes may need to be made in order to accommodate both shows filming at some of the same locations.
The 18th-century Somerley Estate doubles as Prince Charles’ Gloucestershire residence Highgrove, but it also stood in for Somerset House in Bridgerton.
Wilton House in Wiltshire was also used for both series, depicting shots of Buckingham Palace and the Duke of Hastings’ country home.
