Corrie fans praise 'haunting' Sally Carman as devastated Abi learns Seb is dead

Coronation Street fans were left seriously impressed by actress Sally Carman on Friday night, after her character Abi Franklin learned her son Seb had died.

Seb (Harry Visinoni) and girlfriend Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) were attacked by Corey Brent (Maximus Evans) aand his gang in scenes earlier this week which were inspired by the real-life murder of Sophie Lancaster, who was set upon and killed in 2007 just for being a goth.

During Friday night’s episode, Seb died of his injuries, leaving his mother Abi completely devastated as she learned the news.

A doctor told Abi: “Sebastian failed the brain stem test. His brain is no longer sending messages to his body.

“His body has shut down, there is nothing more we can do and his heart has stopped.”

Abi begged doctors to try and do something, but they told her there was nothing that could be done.

The grieving mother collapsed to the floor and cried out in pain, with the day – which should’ve been her wedding day – becoming a real life nightmare.

Abi cried by Seb’s bed, with the poor character covered in cuts and bruises from the brutal assault.

Fans were completely blown away by the upsetting scenes, thanks to Sally Carman’s acting talents.

One said: “Oh God… Abi’s screams after finding out Seb was dead were absolutely haunting. Award-worthy acting from Sally Carman.”

Another told Sally: “You were amazing in tonight’s episode, very powerful, emotive scenes. Really hope that this storyline will help to tackle prejudice and intolerance towards goths and other sub cultures.”

A third wrote: “Feel gutted and absolutely devastated about what’s happened to Seb… really wasn’t expecting that but my good amazing work Sally, there really couldn’t have been a dry eye in the house!”

Someone else said: “Wow you were amazing in tonight’s Corrie. Going to miss you and Harry’s on-screen mother and son. Well done tonight Sally, amazing actress.”

And a fifth fan added: “OMG… tonight’s Corrie was so heartbreaking the acting was superb. To think someone can do this to someone for looking how they feel comfortable in their own skin. I hope awards are given for what they are only deserved.”

Also during Friday’s episode, Nina learned of Seb’s death and could be seen crying.

The attack on the duo was inspired by the murder of Sophie Lancaster, who died after she and her boyfriend were attacked just for the way they were dressed in 2007.

The ITV soap worked closely with the The Sophie Lancaster Foundation on the storyline for guidance.

Corrie continues Monday at 7.30pm on ITV
