Victoria Ekanoye has revealed that she’s part of a Whatsapp group chat with some of her old Corrie co-stars – and it’s her former on-screen family members Patti Clare and Paddy Wallace.
Victoria used to play Angie Appleton on Coronation Street – the daughter-in-law of the hilarious Mary Taylor (Patti Clare) and estranged wife of Jude (Paddy Wallace).
However, it seems like Victoria, Patti and Paddy’s time as a soap family hasn’t come to an end since Victoria left the ITV soap in 2019, because the three still keep in touch in their own Whatsapp group chat.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Star at Mirror’s People’s Pet Awards last week, Victoria said that they’re all members of a “little family Whatsapp group” – and she says that they actually act like a family in real life too, not just on the soap.
When asked if she still keeps in touch with the Corrie cast, Victoria said that she’s especially close to her “amazing” pals Patty and Paddy.
She said: “Oh god yeah, they’re legends. Especially my family on the show – Patty and Paddy – who play Mary and Jude.
“They’re like my little family. We’ve got our little family Whatsapp group. They’re amazing. I love them.”
Unlike their soap characters Angie and Jude, though, Victoria and Paddy aren’t estranged lovers – which probably makes things less awkward than they were on the soap.
Victoria went on to say that it can be tough to meet up with her fellow Corrie pals as they’re all in different places, but that they try and catch up when they’re close together.
She mentioned that she got to see Nicola Thorp recently as well as Faye Brookes, who competed on this year’s Dancing on Ice.
“We’re all in different places but when we are in the same place we try and catch up then and I met up with Nicola and she’s amazing, and Faye.
“She’s on tour at the moment and she’s amazing. We catch up whenever we can.”
The X Factor star also spoke about her time on the soap, and how surreal it is to be part of a show that you used to watch growing up.
Victoria explained: “It’s funny cos you grow up watching the show and all of a sudden you’re in it and your mum’s watching you.”
The singer hilariously added that she had to compete to be her mum’s favourite character on the soap when she joined – as her real mum already had favourite characters before her daughter joined the cast.
Victoria said: “She had our favourite before I got in it, and I was like ‘are they still your favourites?!”
The new mum, who recently welcomed her baby son Theo with her husband Jonny, said that it was “so nice” to be part of Corrie as it is a “massive institution for the country”.
She took a cheeky dig at rival soaps like EastEnders when she added that Corrie is the longest running soap in the world.
Victoria said: “it’s so nice to be a part of such a massive institution for the country, and now it’s the longest running… we’re holding the title… long may we reign”
The Mirror People’s Pet Awards, in partnership with Dogs Trust and Webbox, will premiere on YouTube on 14th December at 7pm.
