Davina McCall has won praise from viewers for her groundbreaking new documentary which aired on Wednesday night.
Channel 4’s Davina McCall: Sex, Myths and the Menopause featured the straight-talking presenter talking about all things menopause.
She wanted to break down barriers and wondered why the subject was such a taboo.
During the show, Davina talked about her own personal experiences, about how going on HRT allowed her to keep working.
The 53-year-old presenter told OK! about what a difference going on HRT made: “It is, in many women’s case and in my case, career saving.
“I definitely would not have been able to continue working had I not gone on HRT.”
She explained: “In many women’s case it’s life saving, marriage saving – it’s really, really hard not just on the women going through it, but on the people who love them and surround them.”
Making the documentary was a tough experience for Davina, as she said: “There were nights when I was making this and I would just go home and cry because I would think about the women I’ve spoken to and of the other women who are suffering and can’t access help.”
Davina also said she is upset by how many medical professionals don’t understand – saying there’s just a “very small handful” of both male and female doctors and gynaecologists who are informed on the subject.
“There are a whole host of other health care professionals who are basically nervous about prescribing HRT or talking about the menopause,” she added.
Davina insisted: “Not all of us will get diabetes or Alzheimer’s but these are illnesses that they do learn about.”

She said she takes care of herself in every way possible, and but said it can be difficult to persuade people to do the same when it comes to the menopause
The Big Brother icon explained she didn’t want it to look like she was “forcing it down people’s throats at all”, however in her case, there were more benefits than risk when it came to HRT.
Viewers on Twitter praised the show after it aired.
One tweeted: “Middle aged women on screen talking about themselves. It’s like we actually exist. Thank you!”
Another added: “Please start including training on the menopause as a mandatory element in GP training. Thank you Davina for raising awareness of this issue which is affecting over 13million women in the UK.”
