Don Everly, one half of country rock and roll group, The Everly Brothers, has died aged 84.
The news comes just seven years after Don’s brother Phil and fellow Everly Brothers star died.
Don’s family announced the news of his passing in a statement, sharing that he had died at his family home in Nashville on Saturday.
It read: ‘Don lived by what he felt in his heart.
“Don expressed his appreciation for the ability to live his dreams … with his soulmate and wife, Adela, and sharing the music that made him an Everly Brother.”
Don’s brother Phil died aged 74 from complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Shortly after the death of his brother, Don paid tribute and told the Los Angeles Times: “I’m not over it. I really feel sad. I think about him every day. I always thought about him every day, even when we were not speaking to each other. It still just shocks me that he’s gone.”
The Everly Brothers was formed in the 1950s and they released their self-titled album in 1957.
After signing with major record label Warner Brothers they went on to release songs such as Bye Bye Love, All I Have to Do is Dream, Bird Dog and Problems.
Their hit single Cathy’s Clown spent five weeks at number one on the Billboard Music charts.
The musical duo released a staggering 21 albums throughout their hit music career.
Roy and Phil were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986 as The Everly Brothers.
Don was later inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as an individual.
The Twitter page for the late Roy Orbison also posted a statement, which read: “We regret to inform you that Don Everly of #TheEverlyBrothers has died today, August 21, 2021. Roy Orbison loved them as friends and looked up to them as musicians. They helped Roy become a songwriter, move to Nashville and much, much more. Thank You Don Everly”
