Emmerdale viewers were left terrified for David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) when it was revealed he had been shot following Thursday night’s gun siege.
As the episode opened, David was seen being tended to by a desperate Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) and Wendy Posner (Susan Cookson), who were trying to keep him alive.
But the poor father fell unconscious as Wendy ran off to try and get a first aid kit, while Russ (Rob Jarvis) insisted he didn’t mean for anyone to get hurt.
Viewers couldn’t believe what they were seeing, as they watched David slowly get weaker and weaker.
One said: “OMG Emmerdale do not make me cry.”
Another wrote: “Just tuned in to Emmerdale. Flipping heck looks like that piece of poo has shot David. Is he leaving then?”
A third tweeted: “Oh come on, hurry up and save David!”
Someone else said: “How is Jacob going to cope?! Losing Leanne and his dad within maybe two months?”
And a fifth added: “As if the writers are going to kill off David! He’ll be in Emmerdale until he’s 100!”
However super sleuth fans predicted David would make it out alive – despite Wendy saying his pulse was getting weaker.
One said: “David’s not dead. Matthew Wolfenden has been filming scenes for October Super Soap Week, it’s on Instagram.”
And another noted: “S*** David has been shot… well we know he can’t be dead unless his Instagram stories recently have been a ploy to through us off the scent!”
Russ made it out as though he hadn’t meant for anyone to get hurt, but he soon showed his true colours as he broke the phone to make sure they couldn’t contact any help.
But Victoria came to the rescue after she battered him around the head with a fire extinguisher, knocking him out cold.
Wendy managed to escape the situation and begged for help, as armed police stormed onto the scene.
Eventually paramedics got David out, while the police quizzed Wendy for information.
Speaking of Russ, she said: “He could be a bit stupid at times, but nothing like this.”
Of course, viewers know the situation as Russ was on the run after an armed robbery went wrong.
But will Wendy get dragged into it too, as she has been lying about being a qualified nurse?
By the look on Victoria’s face after the ordeal, she won’t be getting away completely in the clear.
“If David doesn’t pull through, all of this is on you,” she told her.
Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays on ITV
