Emmerdale viewers were sickened by the “violent” abuse Vinny Dingle suffered on Thursday night’s episode, as he once again confronted his father Paul Ashdale about his gambling addiction.
Vinny (Bradley Johnson) overheard his father on the phone talking about his gambling debts.
He attempted to storm off from the argument, claiming he was going to tell his mum Mandy about Paul’s (Reece Dinsdale) relapse back into gambling.
“She needs to know who she’s marrying,” the youngster insisted.
He said that he only wanted to “protect” his mum from Paul.
But this angered Paul, who retaliated: “I think you’ve forgotten who you’re talking to,” and went to attack Vinny, who flattened himself against a car in the scrapyard.
He blamed his son for “ruining” his stag do ahead of his wedding to Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley).
Soon after, Paul told Vinny he “should be scared” and referenced his own abuse at the hands of his father, who regularly “taught him a lesson”.
Paul promised his son that this was “a lesson you’ll never forget”.
He proceeded to punch Vinny in the face, kicking him repeatedly when he fell to the ground.
With Vinny lying unconscious, Paul screamed at him to wake up – but he was unable to rouse him.
Meanwhile, Mandy was blissfully unaware of the violent incident as she enjoyed her hen do in the Woolpack with mates Lydia and Rhona.
One viewer took to Twitter to comment: “The f*** is going on in Emmerdale and Corrie these days? It was always Seth the game keeper and Ena Sharples’ hair net when I was a kid. Now I’ve just watched some violent child abuse on Emmerdale.”
Someone else tagged Emmerdale to ask: “Is there no such thing as the Watershed nowadays?”
Another even argued the show is trying to “promote” violence, tweeting: “Them in charge seem to promote violence #emmerdale”.
One viewer added: “Why has Emmerdale gone like this? Never used to be so nasty. Why do soaps feel they need to air these storylines?”

“I fail to see how a father kicking the crap out of his son can be called entertainment,” another said.
Others weren’t too impressed with how Covid-19 continues to impact filming, writing: “I’m sorry but these socially distanced violence scenes look ridiculous.”
