Emmerdale star Ash Palmisciano has hinted a very unlikely candidate could soon be taking the reins at the Woolpack pub.
The actor, best known for playing Matty Barton in the hit ITV soap, has teased the future of the iconic Dales venue amid its ongoing financial struggles after Marlon Dingle bought into the struggling business – and suggested Matty himself could be the new landlord.
In an attempt to make some extra cash amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Marlon came up with the idea of hosting a barbecue, and invited Matty to work for cash in hand.
But without any proper training, Matty’s arm ended up engulfed in flames and he suffered gruesome burns.
Things looked even choppier for the Woolie after Al wondered if they were insured against injuries – but, with the arrangement being cash in hand, that looked unlikely.
A lawsuit could see Matty come out with more money than he knows what to do with – so could buying the pub really be out of the realms of possibility?
Ash certainly doesn’t think so, as he explained exclusively to Daily Star: “I think the injury is going to cause a little bit of aggro, but fingers crossed it will go okay.
“I think Matty is going to own [The Woolpack] one day because he doesn’t have a lot of jobs, so I think he is going to buy it.”
The actor added: “There’s lots of things happened and lots of things coming his way.”
And, quizzed on what could be next for Matty, he explained that his blossoming relationship with Amy will be coming more to the forefront.
Ash said: “What’s next for him… he’s embarked on a relationship with Amy so hoping to work towards the next step for them two. So a lot of exciting things coming up!”
But fans have their own theories on who could take over the Woolpack next – with some certain it heralds a return for one Joe Tate.
The dashing lad was last seen on-screen being left for dead by Graham Foster, though it was later confirmed he’d escaped and was living abroad on Kim’s cash.
Taking to social media, one keen-eyed fan posted: “Perhaps Joe is the buyer of the Woolpack?!”
Someone else responded: “I’d absolutely love that. He was awful when he first arrived doing what he did to Debbie. But he redeemed himself in the end.
“I loved the relationship he had with Graham too. It wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine but Graham cared a lot for Joe.
“I was gutted when Graham was killed off too. Plus we could do with a bit of eye candy back on the screen. He’s absolutely beautiful!”
While a third fan followed up: “Hope Joe comes back into it!”
Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7pm on ITV.
