Emmerdale's Lydia looks set for soap exit as Dingle family drama boils over

Emmerdale fan-favourite Lydia Dingle, played by Karen Blick, looks set to leave the village as it appears she has recently been left out by her family.

Viewers of the soap will know that Lydia has been feeling alienated by the famous family and this may lead to Lydia leaving for good.

She’s been fairly absent from the show’s storylines over the past few months but next week she will return, but a potential disagreement could see her visit be a short one.

Upcoming storylines will see Liv Flaherty, played by Isobel Steel, relapse back to alcohol after an altercation with her brother Aaron Dingle, played by this year’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! contestant Danny Miller.

Lydia is part of the iconic Dingle family

The teenager’s recent scenes have resulted in the death of the soap’s villain Paul Ashdale, played by Reece Dinsdale, and Lydia was left to deal with his debt.

Despite their shared experiences with the notorious gambler, Liv and Lydia are not the best of friends considering Liv’s alcohol dependence.

Lydia spots a drunk and unrecognisable Liv, and considering her track record Liv is likely to reject any support Lydia can give her to beat her problem.

This could be the tipping point for Lydia, resulting in further feelings of neglect from the Dingle family and leaving her feeling like an outsider in her own family.

Fears that Lydia may leave the programme were sparked by her absence from recent events

Lydia has had the support of her husband throughout the show but their relationships could be on the rocks as she discusses her feelings with Sam.

After opening up to her spouse their relationship could go either way – will naive Sam make the extra effort to support his wife throughout her low period or, in a case of too little too late, could a break be on the cards?

Lydia recently discovered she has a sister after she found out that her mother gave her away aged five, so the storyline could lead to the beloved character finding refuge with her sibling despite their strained relationship amid the Dingle chaos.

Although viewers will miss Lydia, a smooth exit will mean that she can return to the show in the future.

Lydia and Sam married in 2020

Karen spoke on whether she would leave the show earlier this year: “There are no guarantees with this job, we all know that you never know when your time is up.

“In this show, I would love to stay as long as they’re happy to have me. As I say, I’m a Yorkshire woman, local to where I live.

“It is a dream job so yes, I’m happy to stay for as long as viewers are happy to have Lydia. I absolutely love it, it’s amazing, a fantastic opportunity.”
