Kimberley Nixon, 36, has become a TV staple since her role on Channel 4 series Fresh Meat from 2011 to 2016.
Born in Pontypridd, Kimberley still chooses Wales as home whilst filming in LA.
The actress debuted on our screens in BBC One’s period drama, Cranston, starring alongside Dame Judi Dench in 2007.
Kimberley was just aged 21 at that time, following her study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff.
She appeared in teen roles for a majority of her career due to her young face and features.
Kimberley told WalesOnline: “The problem was I was really young. I wasn’t old enough to play someone’s mum.”
The Welsh star went on to appear in her first film in 2008 – Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging – which remains to be a British teen cult phenomenon.
Kim said: “10 years later they come up to me and ask if I’m ‘sl*ggy Lindsay’.”
If her dad is with her when fans raise this question related to the coming-of-age classic, she has to reassure him they aren’t insulting her.
Kim added: “It has to be in context… They know they know me but not why.”
Soon, Kim became a regular on Channel 4’s university comedy-drama Fresh Meat, by Peep Show creators Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong.
Kim played Josie for all four series alongside comedian Jack Whitehall from 2011 to 2016.
The actress has kept in close contact with the cast ever since and said: “They were a really special group of people.”
The Fresh Meat cast keep a live WhatsApp group chat following their 12-hour days living and working in the same house in Manchester for five months, with Zawe Ashton later reading a poem at Kim’s wedding in 2014 to Cai Howells, who she has since had a baby son with.
Kim has said: “Filming Fresh Meat was my university. It did set me up for the business.”
Kim went on to act alongside Friends icon Matthew Perry in the Sky Arts film The Dog Thrower and had a leading role in Sky’s now-cancelled medical drama Critical.
She has been the voiceover on BBC Three series The Call Centre and won an episode of Celebrity Mastermind with the specialist subject of Agatha Christie’s Poirot novels.
Lately, Kim has appeared in Ordinary Lies, Death in Paradise, The Accident, Original Death Rabbit and ITV drama The Salisbury Poisonings.
From being flown out to Los Angeles to do a chemistry read at Denzel Washington’s request, to going satisfyingly unnoticed in her home in Ponty by the Valleys, Kim has found the best of both worlds and continues to do her love for acting.
