Jeremy Clarkson claims police threatened to report him for 'racist behaviour'

Jeremy Clarkson has talked about the time that two men appeared on his drive and the police threatened to report him for ‘racist behaviour’.

The TV host has opened up about the time that two men came onto his property asking for a picture with him.

But when Jeremy phoned the police he described the men as ‘Travellers’ – so an officer warned him of an ‘inquiry into racist behaviour’ over the term he used.

Jeremy spoke about the situation in his Sunday Times column where he wrote about his neighbour finding a drone that had been filming Jeremy’s house as well as houses in the surrounding area.

However, he soon became worried after spotting another drone above his property and thought that it might be linked when the two men arrived on his drive asking for the photo but he did make it clear that there was ‘nothing unusual’ about the selfie request.

Jeremy wrote: “There was something about them I didn’t like the look of. And there have been a lot of burglaries in the area recently. And I’d just taken delivery of two puppies. And there had been that drone scouting the site just a few hours earlier.”

The star initially asked the men to leave his property and then rang 101 but then tried 999 when he wasn’t getting an answer.

He was then put through to the police where he explained what happened.

Jeremy said: “She seemed to think I was reporting someone for wanting a selfie. But she did at least ask me to describe them, so I said they were Travellers.

He went on: “There was then a pause, after which she said that if I continued in this vein, she’d be forced to open a new line of inquiry into racist behaviour.”

The Grand Tour star said it was “scary” and “tricky” – and questioned how to best describe someone “without bringing colour […] religion and race” into the equation.

He explained the the officer that the men introduced themselves in this way but the phone call ended because the officer ‘couldn’t get her head round’ it.

Jeremy said the police didn’t contact him further so Amazon’s security division sent someone to patrol the farm overnight.
