Loose Women panellist Brenda Edwards struggled not to break down as she said Prince Harry’s comments on new documentary The Me You Can’t see really “hit a nerve” with her.
As the group discussed the Apple TV programme, the Duke of Sussex’s hard-hitting comments and the pain and distance that’s perceived between the two brothers, Brenda’s voice wobbled.
She shared: “I think the thing that come out of this that title The Me You Can’t See, it really hit a nerve with me.
“As Harry said in his Oprah interview, he said that he can say what he wants to say, but his brother [Prince William] and father [Prince Charles] necessarily can’t.
“It’s a lot of people judging the book by the cover because they’re in that public eye, they’re in that establishment and the Firm, and people think you don’t have feelings.”
“But it really touched me,” the panellist continued. “Just to hear them being able to talk their truth.
“I hope people let them do it as they want to,” she finished, her voice breaking.
“I just hope they have a big Zoom call planned later,” Nadia Sawalha then offered.
As the ITV lunchtime show went to a break the camera panned back to see Brenda wiping away all her tears with tissues, as Linda Robson tried to console her colleague.
Judi Love also fought to contain her emotions about the topic.
“To even talk about without welling up,” she began, taking in a deep breath.
“I mean as a child trauma and especially you know Brenda we know you losing a parent at that age, and to have that responsibility and not know whats going on, and then being in the public eye – we can never really understand what they’ve gone through unless you’ve been through it yourself.
“It’s just heartbreaking, and I think look they both [the princes] grieve in different ways.
“Harry, I feel he just wants to make sure that his child doesn’t have the same speech in 20 years time about his mum,” Judi continued.
“Well actually one of the other things he does say is ‘I look into Archie’s eyes wondering whether my wife is ever gonna end up like my mother, and I’m going to have to look after him myself’,” Nadia then agreed, sharing another quote from the hugely-anticipated documentary, which came out today and also features interviews from Lady GaGa and Oprah Winfrey.
“I just hope now there will bring a bit of sympathy back for Harry,” Judi later insisted. “So much conversation about him, Meghan [Markle] and all this other stuff, the reality is we’ve sat here watching two men who are now grown, but we’ve seen the child in him, saw the pain on his face.
“We all know what it’s like to have a trauma, whether you’re an adult or a child. That’s all I care about,” the panellist finished.
Loose Women continues weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
