Lorraine Kelly apologises after getting Archie's name wrong in Meghan blunder

Lorraine Kelly was forced to apologise on Monday’s show, when she accidentally misnamed Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor ahead of a powerful segment.

Discussing Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s groundbreaking interview with Oprah Winfrey, Lorraine, 61, referred to claims a Royal questioned the colour of Archie’s skin.

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor is Meghan and Harry’s first child together, born in May of 2019.

Lorraine was joined by Paula Rhone-Adrien on the show to discuss the Royal Family’s relationship with race following concerning claims made by Harry and Meghan.

However, Lorraine accidentally called their son “Harry” instead of Archie – mistaking the child for his father.

She said: “We’ve got more reaction to that interview now, especially about the claims of racism which came as Meghan talked about their son Harry.”

Lorraine immediately corrected herself, then added: “Archie. God, sorry.”

In the interview, Meghan said a member of the Royal Family had spoken to Harry about the colour of their son’s skin, with the Prince later relaying the conversation to his wife.

She told Oprah: “All around this same time, we have in tandem the conversation of he won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title and also concerns and conversations as how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”

Harry confirmed such a conversation had taken place, adding: “That conversation I’m never going to share but at the time it was awkward. I was a bit shocked.”

The interview, which will air in full on ITV on Monday evening, sent shockwaves through the world, though Harry refused to name the family member who made the remark.

Lawyer Paula Rhone-Adrien spoke out on the bombshell claims, admitting she wasn’t surprised by the revelation.

She said: “In Britain we’re very much led to believe that racism no longer exists.”

“There is nothing that Meghan said in the interview yesterday that came as a shock to me,” the barrister added.

Paula encouraged viewers to open their eyes to the racism that exists in the UK today, in a bid to bring about change for generations to come.

Lorraine thanked her, replying: “I’m so sorry and I’m so glad that we’re having this conversation.”

Lorraine airs on weekdays at 9am on ITV.
