Love Island fans are convinced a surprising exchange between Priya Gopaldas and Faye was “set up” on last night’s episode (August 16).
Just before Priya and Brett Staniland were booted from the villa, she pulled Faye for a chat on the terrace.
This came after the islanders all selected two pairs they thought were least compatible, who would then be at risk of being dumped by public vote.
Priya told Faye: “I think you and Teddy (Soares) make a great couple, and I just wanted to let you know – with the voting – that we didn’t vote for you. Because I genuinely believe that you and teddy are super solid.”
But the moment stunned fans, with some saying they had never seen such a moment before on the show’s history.
Speaking on the unofficial Love Island podcast My Pod on Paper, host Orlaith Condon and guest Suzanne Kane questioned the producers’ involvement.
“It was pure positioning from the producers,” said Suzanne.
Her co-host agreed, adding: “I’ve never seen that done before. I’ve never seen anybody going back out on the balcony and telling people this – it was pure positioning from the producers.
“Maybe if there was an especially close alliance between Priya and Faye, maybe then you’d buy it, but there’s not been that at all.”
Viewers also took to social media to have their say.
One said: “It’s so clear the producers made Priya say that!”
However, others don’t think it matters. One viewer said: “I think in hindsight this Love Island season will definitely be remembered fondly. As annoying as it is, it’s a producer’s dream.”
The podcasting duo think the discussion between Priya and Faye is likely to set up an explosive episode this evening, and they speculated that Faye might be set for another meltdown.
“I reckon that she’ll fall out with everybody, she’s a model to fall out with everybody,” Suzanne said.
In a teaser for tonight’s show, Faye confronts Jake Cornish, telling him: “You, outside or in, are a different person and you’re p*ssing me off now.”
