Naga Munchetty told off by radio producer after making cheeky sex quip live on-air

Naga Munchetty found herself in some rather hot water on Wednesday morning, after making a cheeky sex quip live on-air.

The BBC Breakfast star was hosting her Radio 5 Live show from 10am, discussing how Henry VIII had chosen his fourth wife, Anne of Cleves – by looking at a portrait of her.

Naga was chatting to Franny Moyle, author of The King’s Painter, when things first took a turn for the racy.

The star was busy comparing portraits to the “touched-up” Instagram selfies of our Internet era, and used the word “relations” to refer to a sexual relationship.

“It was a long distance engagement,” Franny explained. “When [the marriage] was delayed he was infuriated.”

She explained how Henry turned up in disguise to meet his bride, adding: “It was at that moment he realised he’d made a terrible mistake, because the woman he met… he found really rather unattractive.”

Henry then tried to get out of the marriage – but failed.

“So, did they have, er, relations?” she asked Franny of Henry’s inescapable marriage with Anne.

“No, they tried, it didn’t work. He found her so unattractive, he claimed, that he became impotent – he claims,” the historian explained.

But it was with Naga’s next guest, Nick Hatfield, when the producer was forced to step in and put a lid on things.

“You see, all these touched up selfies? They are nothing new!” Naga remarked. “Not saying they’re not worth it though, by all means – they can come in useful, can’t they Nick?”

He agreed, but couldn’t help having a giggle at Naga as he asked: “Yeah. Relations? Are you from the 19th century?”

“No!” Naga insisted. “Bill Clinton, Monica Lewinsky? ‘I did not have sexual relations with that woman’. Relations! I was being polite!”

Naga has been golfing in Scotland recently

But Naga was soon forced to clam up on the debate, as she announced: “I have a message from my producer – ‘Steady now’. He’s just messaged me.”

“You’ve got to be careful,” Nick warned her.

Still giggling, Naga said: “Let’s go to the grown-up in the room now, Nick. You’ve got the news!”

It comes after Naga’s unexplained absence from BBC Breakfast last week, which she usually presents on Thursdays and Fridays.

The star was actually up in the Scottish Highlands enjoying a golfing trip – but fans were left concerned when she didn’t appear on the red sofa.

The Scottish golf course tweeted last week: “Great to see Naga Munchetty from the BBC playing on the Links today at Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club. Great player with a 7 handicap too.”
