Piers Morgan issues double-edged 'apology' after Dominic Cummings' claims

Piers Morgan issued a double-edged apology for holding members of parliament to account on Good Morning Britain amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 56-year-old former GMB star had been both slammed and haled for his efforts with ensuring that the government were shamed if – in his view – they’d not taken appropriate action where coronavirus was concerned.

At the time, Piers used his presenting platform to highlight what he believed to be ‘wrongdoings’ as well as social media platforms to get messages strongly across.

Taking another virtual ‘stab’ at officials, he took to his Twitter platform to humiliate Boris Johnson and his entourage in the wake of Dominic Cummings’ claims about the Prime Minister.

Piers penned: “A PERSONAL STATEMENT

“I’d like to sincerely apologise for the way I held the Govt to account during this pandemic.

“It’s quite clear from Cummings’ shocking testimony that I should have gone much much harder. Sorry.”

Dominic Cummings, who was the former aid to the Prime Minister is alleged to be hurt by the manner of his departure from No 10.

Since his exit, he has hit out on a number of occasions, slamming Boris Johnson’s conduct – especially surrounding the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.

More recently, the former MP alleged that Boris Johnson had said “Covid is only killing 80-year-olds” when the lockdown had been delayed until autumn.

On Wednesday, Dominic threw Matt Hancock into the ring as well.

Boris’ chief advisor claims that Health Secretary was obsessed with hitting his 100k target that he interfered with the Test and Trade build.

He explained: “I said ‘If we don’t fire the secretary of state and we don’t get testing into someone’s hands, we are going to kill lots of people’.”

Dominic added again: “One thing I can say completely honestly is that I said repeatedly from Feb/Mar if we don’t fire the Sec of State [Hancock] and get testing into somebody else’s hands, we’re going to kill people and it’s going to be a catastrophe.”

Piers also took a disliking to Matt Hancock’s approach and the pair came to blows on an episode of GMB.

As tensions mounted, Piers even accused the member of parliament of telling a “barefaced lie”.

The TV star fumed: “We have nearly 1,000 health workers who have died on the front line. I don’t know why I should be thanking you. You should be apologising.”

Things reached boiling point after host Piers said the Health Secretary sounded “exasperated” after he’d “just been caught breaking the law.”

Matt clapped back: “I think we should be on this programme thanking my team. They work so hard.”
