American rapper DaBaby has reportedly been questioned by police in relation to a shooting in Miami which left two people injured – one critically.
TMZ reports that police interviewed the rapper as part of their investigation into the incident, which has left one victim still in hospital being treated for critical injuries.
The other victim was successfully treated and discharged.
TMZ reports that detectives are following various leads, though no official arrests have yet been made despite a number of suspects being briefly detained initially.
The shooting occurred close to several popular restaurants in Miami Beach.
DaBaby, real name Jonathan Lyndale Kirk, is best known for his track ROCKSTAR, featuring Roddy Ricch, but he has had several hits including BOP and Masterpiece.
Spokesman for Miami Beach Police Department Ernesto Rodriguez told Local 10 News on Tuesday that “several possible suspects” were detained, including the rapper.
It came after DaBaby and his entourage were suspected to be involved in the shooting.
A source told Page Six: “DaBaby and his crew had an issue with people right next to them in the car. DaBaby and his crew were traveling in around six SUVs, and either a car pulled up on them and started something or their doors hit each other and they got in a fight.
“Rumour has it that DaBaby and 10 to 12 members of his entourage have been detained by police.”
According to US radio host Andy Slater, police sources told him: “DaBaby fired off at least one round outside Prime 112 in Miami Beach.
“The rapper told cops he did it in self defence.”
The personality added: “A senior law enforcement officer tells me that rapper Wisdom is also being questioned in connection with the shooting.”
The incident occurred shortly after 11:30pm on Monday.
Multiple people called for the emergency services after hearing gunshots, and police arrived to find two victims had been shot – one in the leg and the other in the shoulder.
It isn’t the first time DaBaby has had run ins with the law, as in 2019 he was found guilty of carrying a concealed gun and sentenced to a year on probation.
The verdict came a year after a fatal shooting at a supermarket in North Carolina, though a judge reportedly said he had acted in self-defence.
In January last year, the rapper was detained and questioned in Miami in connection to a robbery investigation.
He was later arrested after local authorities discovered there was a warrant for his arrest in Texas, which was related to a battery charge.
TMZ reported at the time that members of DaBaby’s crew had allegedly jumped and robbed a music promoter, who had apparently underpaid him for a performance in Miami.
Reports at the time said that the group allegedly took cash, an iPhone 7 and a credit card from the alleged victim.
DaBaby was charged with the crime and released from jail 48 hours later.

The rapper was also in hot water after slapping a female fan during his Up Close N Personal tour, allegedly because she had her phone “too close to his face”.
He took to social media after the incident and said in an Instagram video: “I do apologise that there was a female on the other end. I think, by this time, you know it’s a well-known fact that male or female, I would’ve responded the same way.”
He stormed out of the venue without performing any songs, leaving the crowd booing his actions.
