RHOM's Adriana de Moura 'proud' as she brings Martina Navratilova's wife on show

Real Housewives of Miami OG Adriana De Moura has said she is “honoured and proud” to have brought the reality franchise’s first ever same-sex marriage onto the show.

The newly rebooted show, which went on hiatus in 2013 after three seasons, finally made a return this week, with new cast member Julia Lemigova joining with her tennis icon wife Martina Navratilova.

Russian model Julia, 49, who married Martina, 65, in 2014, is on RHOM alongside returning stars Alexia Echevarria, Larsa Pippen and Lisa Hochstein, and fellow newbies Guerdy Abraira and Nicole Martin.

And Adriana, who returns alongside Marysol Patton in a “friend” role, revealed to Daily Star that she is the reason Julia is on the show.

Speaking from her tropical-looking Miami garden, the Brazilian bombshell, 56, said she was “surprised” it had taken this long for The Real Housewives to include a same-sex marriage.

“I was surprised and I actually was the catalyst for that happening because Julia is my friend,” she told us.

‘We’ve been friends for 19 years and when I was asked back, I was asked to bring a friend, introduce a new friend.

“I have a lot of fabulous friends but in my mind, I thought, ‘You know what? It’s about time that we have a same-sex marriage representation on this platform.’

“I was amazed that it took little me to come up with this idea and bring her on board, so I feel so honoured and proud of her and that now we have it, we’re making history.

“I feel so humbly honoured that I was the catalyst for that representation.”

With the first two episodes of the fourth season now streaming on Hayu, fans are already getting to see a little glimpse into Julia’s life with Martina.

Adriana said: “I’m biased, but I think she’s doing a great job.

“I called her yesterday and was like, ‘You’re doing me so proud, I am so glad that this decision that I made back then came to fruition and you’re here now.’ And I’m really proud of that.”

But Julia might not be the only same-sex relationship on the show that fans see, as Adriana – whose divorce from Frederic Marq was finalised earlier this year – has confessed she’s open to exploring options other than men.

She told us: “I’m in a new phase of my life – Adriana 2.0 – I’m much more open to life and I think I’m evolving, and part of my evolving is also embracing gender, sexuality in a whole different way, so I’m trying to break my own personal barriers.”
