Rich Kids Go Skint star leaves family hungry after failing £5 food budget task

Millionaire James was in for a surprise in this week’s episode of Rich Kids Go Skint.

The Chanel 5 series sees children from wealthy backgrounds paired with families that aren’t as fortunate as them and are made to do basic but essential tasks with a limited budget.

Coming from a family with a five-acre multi-million dollar estate in Ohio, James studied business at Reagents Part University while his parents covered the costs of his £40k a year lifestyle and £1,900 monthly rent.

Speaking about his London living the student said: “I love living in a posh area. I like going to bars, clubs and restaurants.

“When I’m in a club, I could easily spend £2,000. I feel bad about that sometimes but yeah… it’s not my money.”

James even used to drive a £30,000 vintage Ford Mustang to school every day before coming to the UK for university.

With a lot of money flying around you might be worried about the families financial security but don’t worry, they own a revolutionary flag from the Civil War valued at five million dollars.

For his episode, James was paired with the Whibley family in Gillingham, 40 miles from the city living that James is used to.

Once £800 of the budget is spent on rent and bills, parents Sherry and Stuart are left with only £100 to last the month.

James’ task to feed the family of four for the night on just a £5 budget quickly became an issue as his plan to treat the family to an American experience with burgers turned to shock when James discovered that pre-made patties are close to a fiver.

In an attempt to still bring his plans to fruition, James bought four burgers and buns for the family at with 75p left in the budget.

To celebrate his achievement he treated himself to two packs of Coors Light beer for £10 each.

Seeing what James had brought, Sherry said: “£5 on four burgers for our dinner – we might have to have a takeaway! It just goes to prove he’s used to cooking for himself and not a family.”

Sherry advised: “You can get pasta for 20p, mince for £1.50 and with a tin of tomatoes and some puree, you could have made a massive spaghetti bolognese out of that.”

Once alone in the other room Sherry did admit she thought his intentions were at least kind, even if misguided: “He wanted to give us an American experience which I think is really really sweet.”
