Dan Walker was conspicuously absent from the BBC Breakfast red sofa on Wednesday morning, in what signals a major show shakeup.
Instead, Sally Nugent was accompanied by Charlie Stayt – who usually presents the show on Thursdays and Fridays with Naga Munchetty.
Dan usually presents the programme from Monday to Wednesday with Sally, or Louise Minchin before she left the programme after 20 years earlier this year.
Fans of the show were certainly feeling his absence, as one penned on Twitter: “Charlie and Sally on Breakfast this morning. I think Dan is not doing Wednesdays whilst on Strictly.
“This means Jon will present with Naga on Saturday for the 4th week in a row. If he is unavailable, then Naga and Roger,” they predicted.
Someone else was enjoying Sally and Charlie’s chemistry, as they posted: “What a treat to have Sally and Charlie on the sofa today!”
With Dan busy improving his steps in Strictly Come Dancing rehearsals, it’s understandable that he is putting as much time into his dance practice with professional partner Nadiya Bychkova.
It comes after he made a dancing blunder during Saturday night’s live show during his Prince Charming-inspired routine.
Judge Anton Du Beke admitted he was “mortified” for Dan after clocking the mistake, telling him: “Oh, I wanted to say, ‘arise Sir Daniel’, but you went wrong and I can’t tell you who’s more disappointed, me or you quite frankly because you were dancing it quite elegantly.
“You’ve got a wonderful posture and your arms are improving… but you went wrong.”
Dan admitted he was “gutted” by the error, and confessed to Sally on the Breakfast couch this Tuesday that he feels “inadequate” in his dance skills – but is planning on returning to the dance floor next weekend fighting fit.
But Dan did pop onto Twitter to let fans in on a cheeky behind the scenes secret of filming BBC Breakfast.
One fan wondered on social media why the presenter use printed paper alongside their laptops on the presenting seat.
They wrote: “I usually start my day with @BBCBreakfast and I keep asking myself if the presenters have laptops (that already use energy), why do they also need to use so much printed paper? Is it not wasteful?”
Dan responded: “Good morning. We don’t print as much as we used to but we do need paper copies as an emergency back up. All of it gets recycled after the show!”
It all comes after Naga Munchetty was absent from the programme last week in order to take a golfing trip up in Scotland – and showcased her skills on social media.
Showcasing herself in a red sports top and baseball cap at Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club., Naga tweeted: “My happy place. Have had a fabulous few days (never enough) Great golf, weather and laughing with friends. I will be back!”
BBC Breakfast airs from 6am every day on BBC One.
