Titanic is everybody’s favourite epic romance movie. Filled with disaster, love and heartbreak, and following a real life disaster – it’s a movie that we return to over and over again.
Kate Winslet, who played the lead character of Rose Dawson, is celebrating her 46th birthday today – and we wanted to celebrate with her.
Keep reading to discover what the cast of Titanic got up to once filming had concluded, awards had been collected and red carpets were rolled up.
From claiming celibacy, battling ovarian cancer, winning awards, losing awards and dressing up as a chicken (yes, really) – the cast have had some wild rides since the great ship.
Rose DeWitt Bukater played by Kate Winslet
When Titanic was filmed, Kate was just 21 years of age.
After starring in the blockbuster smash-hit, she became the youngest person to be nominated for six Academy Awards at 33 – although she has now been nominated for seven in total.
Kate is one of the very few actors who has been awarded with these coveted awards: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.
Since her success in the 1997 movie, Kate has starred in Iris, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Finding Neverland, Little Children and Revolutionary Road.
More recently, Kate has starred in Steve Jobs, for which she won a Golden Globe for.
Kate has had a rocky romantic life behind the scenes but is now said to be loved up with Edward Abel Smith (legally known as Ned Rocknroll from 2008 to 2019).
The couple married in December 2012 in New York, and their son, Bear, was born the following year.
Kate and her family moved back to England and purchased a property worth £3.25 million by the sea in West Wittering, Sussex, where she lives with Ned and her children as of 2015.
Jack Dawson played by Leonardo DiCaprio
Just like Kate, Leonardo was in his early twenties when he took on his role in Titanic.
Leo was just 22 when he played Jack Dawson – the boy who stole all of our hearts and then broke them in a matter of minutes.
Although he wasn’t nominated for Best Actor when Titanic came out, his acting in the movie saw him sky-rocket to worldwide fame.
Since his stint on the cruise ship that tragically sank, he has starred in many Hollywood hits like The Man in the Iron Mask, Catch Me If You Can, The Aviator and The Wolf of Wall Street.
Jack and Rose (well, Leonardo and Kate) reunited as lovers on-screen when they both starred in Revolutionary Road together.
It had become a running gag that Leo would never win an Oscar, but in 2016 he won an Academy Award (Oscar) for Best Actor for his role in The Reverent.
As for his personal life, Leo has been in a relationship with Argentine-American model and actress Camila Morrone since 2017.
He is said to own a home in Los Angeles and an apartment in Battery Park City.
Molly Brown played by Kathy Bates
Kathy Bates portrayed the unsinkable Molly Brown in 1997, but was already a huge star beforehand.
Her career has gone from strength to strength and she hasn’t stopped since starring in the blockbuster.
She has starred in TV series’ and movies, racking up film credits, awards and TV credits.
Since Titanic she has starred in HBO’s Six Feet Under, the 1999 Annie remake, Dash & Lilly, and the US version of The Office.

She later won her second ever Emmy for her role as Madame Delphine LaLaurie on season 3 of American Horror Story.
In 2003, Kathy was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and has battled it ever since.
In September 2012, she revealed via Twitter that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer two months earlier and had undergone a double mastectomy.
In 2014, at the New York Walk for Lymphedema & Lymphatic Diseases, Bates announced via pre-recorded audio that, due to the double mastectomy, she has lymphedema in both arms.
Cal Hockley played by Billy Zane
Zane played Cal Hockley in Titanic, and let’s face it – he was probably the most disliked character in the whole movie.
But since Titanic, he’s gone on to achieve some very cool things.
Zane had a very instrumental part in the creation of the critically acclaimed film The Believer, in which he starred as neo-Nazi and worked opposite Ryan Gosling.
He’s continued to work in film and has appeared in TV shows like Charmed.
Zane starred in the 2012 thriller film The Kill Hole.
In January 2017 he appeared in a commercial for KFC as a gold-coloured Colonel Sanders to pitch the restaurant chain’s newest limited-time flavour, Georgia Gold Honey Mustard BBQ chicken.
His love life has been rocky to say the least and he has dated some really beautiful women.
Zane was married to actress Lisa Collins from 1989 until 1995.
He was then engaged again, before later becoming engaged to British model and actress Kelly Brook, whom he met when they co-starred in the movie Survival Island/Three together. They split in April 2008, got back together again shortly thereafter, then ended the relationship in 2008, it is thought.
He is now engaged to Candice Neil who is the mother of his two daughters. Their first daughter, Ava Catherine, was born in 2011, and their second daughter, Gia, was born in 2014.
Ruth DeWitt Bukater played by Frances Fisher

Since her stint on the ship, she has appeared in films like True Crime, House of Sand and Fog, Laws of Attraction, The Kingdom, and The Lincoln Lawyer.
In 2014, Frances began starring in the ABC drama series Resurrection.
And in 2015 she played the mother of Ryan Reynolds character in Woman in Gold.
In 1970, when Frances was 18, she married her high school sweetheart Billy Mack Hamilton, but they divorced two years later.
Frances dated Clint Eastwood in the early to mid 1990s. During that time, the couple had a daughter, Francesca Eastwood in 1993.
After her split from Eastwood, Fisher dated fellow actor George Clooney in 1995.
Fisher has explained that finding a boyfriend was difficult while raising a child on her own. She stated in 2010 that “as a single mom, you know, it’s been a different thing. No gentleman callers.”
In a March 2011 interview, she proclaimed her celibacy.
Captain Edward James Smith played by Bernard Hill
Before Titanic, the captain who went down with his ship had worked successfully on television, but his big break came when he played King Théoden in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

He is married to Marianne, and the couple who live in Suffolk, England have a son named Gabriel.

He played Jack Bristow in Alias, which cultivated a relationship with Jennifer Garner, leading for him to be the officiant at her wedding to Ben Affleck and the godfather of their daughter Violet.
He keeps a very personal life and tends to stay out of the tabloids.
In 2012, he referred publicly to being gay, and in 2013, he said “I don’t really talk about it, but everybody knows.”
Garber has been in a relationship with Canadian artist and model Rainer Andreesen since 2000.
On October 10, 2015, Andreesen announced on his Instagram page that he and Garber were married in Canada.
Old Rose played by Gloria Stuart

Her last film performance was in Wim Wenders’ Land of Plenty in 2004.
