The One Show's Rafe Spall describes moment he got 'hot and sweaty' with Madonna

Timothy Spall’s son Rafe has opened up about the ‘hot and sweaty’ three minutes he spent with Madonna at her home.

In a cheeky anecdote on The One Show, Rafe told presenters Jermaine Jenas and Alex Jones the story of how Madonna had invited him to her house after he’d been performing on Broadway.

Alex began the segment by saying: “Rumour has it that you’ve spent a very sweaty, hot three mins with Madonna.”

Rafe immediately giggled: “I’m getting a bit hot now even thinking about it. I did a play on Broadway and Madonna came and saw it, and she was very sweet and invited me and my wife to come to dinner.”

“Hang on,” Alex interrupted. “Madonna went to see the play and invited you to dinner?”

“I know – it’s obscene!” Rafe replied. “So we went because we were like yeah, we’re gonna go to Madonna’s house for dinner!

“And after dinner – I was sat next to her – and because I’d just done the play, I was feeling a bit confident, so I was like yeah I’m gonna pretend to Madonna that I’m not in any way afraid of her, which of course I was.

“And then she was like okay, clear the tables – we’re gonna dance! I was like ‘Right let’s have this.'”

Rafe continued: “I start dancing and Lourdes, her daughter, is doing the tunes and I’m dancing and my wife is talking to someone else.

“Madonna came and started dancing really close to me – like really close – and she’s dressed as madonna she’s got a gold grille, fingerless gloves and a corset on.”

Alex couldn’t hold back her next question, as she queried: “Did she eat dinner like that?”

“She did, yeah!” Rafe chuckled.

Jermaine took his chance to interject as he added: “I like how that was your question – I was thinking ‘Did you turn up, Rafe – did you do the business?”

“This is the thing!” Rafe giggled. “Because the whole time I’m going, ‘don’t back down, just pretend you’re not terrified here’. My wife is finding it hilarious ’cause she can hear exactly what’s going on in my head.

“So Madonna’s dancing with me and she looks up and she says to me: ‘This is who you are, and I’m like ‘yeah – this is who I am!'”

After momentarily leaving the room and returning, Rafe explained: “A dance circle had formed, and Madonna is sat on a throne – a literal throne – and all her dancers from her tour are there around her, doing this dance, and she says to me: ‘Rafe get in the circle!’
