This Morning's Sharon Marshall in tears as star admits she 'hid' her fertility battle

Sharon Marshall cried on This Morning as she recalled the heartbreaking time she used to “hide” her fertility struggles.

Sharon is This Morning’s resident soap expert, and the mum grew emotional on air as she reflected on her difficult IVF journey during Thursday’s show (November 4).

Sharon told her co-stars Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield that she used to keep her fertility struggles a secret, and didn’t tell her peers about what she was going through as she was “embarrassed” about it.

However, said she was an “idiot” for not opening up to people about how she was struggling to have a baby.

Speaking on the sofa during National Fertility Week, Sharon said “I feel sick but I feel like I’ve got to do it [speak about it]”.

She went on: “I see so many people coming forward about and talking about miscarriage, and I know it all helped me when I was going through it to hear it, and I think this is one of the very last areas that we just don’t talk about.

She started to well up with tears as she continued: “I’m not knocking IVF, it’s a miracle. It’s given me the most precious thing ever in my Betsey but I look back. I’ve just turned 50 and I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and looking back about my forties.”

Sharon explained: “What I realised is that for part of my forties, I was very depressed, I was ill emotionally and physically, from repeated cycles of IVF that weren’t working and I was failing and failing, and I couldn’t see a way through it.”

Sharon suffered two tragic miscarriages over the course of seven grueling rounds of IVF.

The presenter gave birth to her first child, her daughter Betsey Fletcher, on July 10 2018.

Six months into her pregnancy, Sharon faced another pregnancy scare when she woke up bleeding in the night.

Luckily, medics were able to control the bleeding and Sharon managed to give birth to her little Betsey.

She had previously feared that she would “jinx” her pregnancy – following her traumatic IVF experience.

She told The Sun: “Before she was born I was convinced something was going to go wrong.

“Until Betsey was actually put in my arms and I heard her let out the most almighty yell, I always felt like someone was going to say it’s all going to be taken away from me.

“I’d never allowed myself to go and buy something for the baby before I’d given birth.

“I wouldn’t even let myself look at the baby clothes in a shop. I was terrified to jinx it.”

She shares Betsey with her partner Paul Fletcher, a marketing executive, and the family live in West London.

She announced her pregnancy on This Morning in January 2018.
