Nina Wadia has been announced as the 11th contestant on Strictly Come Dancing 2021.
The actress will be taking to the dance floor following a week of reveals from singers, comedians, chef’s daughters, and bake-off stars.
When asked if she likes dancing in front of millions people on ITV’s Loose women, Nina replied, ‘No, I like dancing like no one’s watching!
‘If we blindfold the judges I could actually win Strictly 2021!’
Talking about the glam and glitz that comes with Strictly Nina said ‘I have always been a little bit of a tomboy so this is going to be a bit of a struggle for me.’
Excited to begin her Strictly journey, Nina added ‘I think I should do this before I’m too old and can’t walk anymore. I just want to grab life by the horns and just enjoy it.’
Who is Nina Wadia?
Best known for playing Zainab Masood in BBC Eastenders, Nina has become a well-known face on British TV.
Having appeared in the Open All Hours spin-off ‘Still Open All Hours’, the BBC2 sketch Goodness Gracious Me, and the series, Origin – she is juggling a busy acting career.
Most recently Nina has featured in Disney’s theatre performance of Aladdin and regularly presents Sunday Morning Live on BBC.
Nina also received an OBE earlier in the year for her charity and entertainment services.
Strictly 2021 lineup announcements
The 52-year-old will be joining her fellow contestants who were revealed earlier in the week, including McFly singer, Tom Fletcher, CBBC star Rhys Stephenson, comedian Robert Webb, and TV presenter AJ Odudu.
Bake Off winner John Whaite will also be joining this year’s show, competing as the first-ever all-male partnership in Strictly history.
Talking about this, John said ‘It is an honour, when they asked me if I would be interested I just bit their hand off.
‘To do that and represent the LGBTQ+ community is one thing, but also to see two men or two women dancing together, it is not necessarily about sexuality, it’s about intimacy and respect.
‘I think that is gonna be such a great thing in our culture where men are conditioned not to open up and be emotional, and I think it will help to combat that.’
Another celeb announced this week was Tik Tok fanatic Tilly Ramsay, also known as Gordon Ramsay’s daughter – along with The Crown actor, Greg Wise.
Fellow soap actor Katie McGlynn will also be joining Nina, as well as BBC breakfast host, Dan Walker and Dragons Den star, Sara Davies.
With Nina as the confirmed 11th contestant, we can expect to see four other celebs announced later in the week.
We can look forward to Nina strutting her stuff this autumn when the new series of Strictly Come Dancing begins.
