Alan Carr's estranged husband breaks silence after he's released from prison

Alan Carr’s estranged husband has spoken publicly for the first time since he was released from prison for his drink-drive car crash.

Paul Drayton, 50, won his appeal against his original 14-week sentence on Friday leaving him a free man.

The party planner spent two “harrowing” nights in police custody before he attended the court hearing last week.

He has now confirmed that he will not be returning to prison but does take “full accountability” for his actions and is planning a return to rehab to address his addiction issues.

He wrote in a statement: “As you can imagine, this has been an exceptionally challenging time, but I am so grateful for the support and care I’ve received.

“I take full accountability for my actions, but I am so thankful for the opportunity to truly get better and to start my new chapter with strength and determination.

“Thank you for all of the support, love and kindness you have shown me over the last few weeks.”

He then added: “I am now going back to my rehabilitation centre to keep my journey and progress moving forward and will be stepping away from social media during this time.

“Thank you all again. The next chapter is going to be the brightest. Keep smiling lovelies.”

Paul and Alan recently split after 13 years of marriage, the troubled events professional also underwent brain surgery just over two weeks ago.

He was originally sentenced to 14-weeks in prison on Wednesday after pleading guilty to one count of “driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level above limit”.

Sussex police originally stopped Paul on October 9 2021 when he was seen swerving from side to side while driving his car just three miles from the home he shared with Alan at 3pm in the afternoon.

He was so intoxicated at the time that he reversed into the police car when pulling over and narrowly missed hitting a mother and her baby.

On reconsidering his original sentence after hearing that Paul had led an “exemplary life” Judge Shani Barnes stated: “It is right that we give you an opportunity to make amends and turn your life around.”

He then received a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for 24 months.
