BBC Breakfast's Nina Warhurst in huge wardrobe blunder as co-star forced to change

BBC Breakfast presenter Nina Warhurst wasn’t afraid to dress to impress this Valentine’s Day – but a massive wardrobe blunder left her red-faced while sitting on the sofa.

Nina was presenting alongside Jon Kay on Monday (February 14) and chose to wear a stunning white top emblazoned with a red love-heart design fit for a day to celebrate love.

While chatting to weather presenter Carol Kirkwood, who had also matched her outfit to the day – opting for a grey dress dotted with black hearts – Nina revealed that her co-star had actually been forced to change after they turned up in the same top.

Nina told Carol: “We’ve just noticed the beautiful hearts on your dress – I’ve gone for a similar theme this morning!”

Carol replied: “Oh, you have to on Valentine’s Day, don’t you Nina? Yours is very nice – nice red top!”

“As is yours!” Nina returned the compliment before saying: “And actually, Holly came in in the exact same top as me this morning, and she’s had to quickly change so that we weren’t matching!

“And Jon Kay said, ‘Oh, what a coincidence that you’re both in the same top!’ not realising the theme at all!”

A blushing Jon chipped in: “I had no idea!”

The conversation soon turned to a dog who had a natural black heart-shape on his fur – as Jon showed Carol a newspaper clipping featuring the pooch.

“There’s plenty in the papers, and we showed this earlier, but look – this is like matching Carol’s dress! This is Splodge, the Pointer, with a heart coat. Have you seen that, it’s almost identical to Carol’s top!” he said.

Carol gushed: “Aww, he looks good in that, though, I must say.”

As Jon giggled: “I’m feeling completely underdressed! Maybe I can borrow Holly’s top?”

The pair went on to discuss a report which explained a study into forgetfulness caused by the Covid-19 pandemic – giving people an excuse to forget the Valentine’s cards.

Jon joked: “If you’re waking up this morning and have just seen this newspaper report, and looked at Nina’s top and thought, ‘Oh my goodness I’ve forgotten it’s Valentine’s Day’ – you can just say you’re stressed and sad, and that’s your excuse.”

“Or quickly make one, if you’re desperate!” Nina suggested.

And later, Jon called her a “romantic” as they prepared to discuss another Valentine’s-related segment, with a VT showing a collection of candles.

Nina quickly branded them a “fire hazard”, as Jon giggled and said: “Oh, you’re a romantic!”
