BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent compared Foreign Secretary Liz Truss to former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher during a gruelling interview on the morning show.
During Wednesday’s instalment of the popular news show, the 50-year-old and her co-host Dan Walker were joined by the Conservative party member.
And the brunette beauty made sure to grill the politician on air as she demanded answers following the recent garden party scandal the political party faced this month.
But one area that caused contention on air was when the broadcaster compared a recent picture of the foreign secretary in a tank during a recent trip to Estonia.
As she joined the co-stars on air, Sally asked if the politician was aware of the impact of the strikingly similar picture to one of Margaret Thatcher in a British Army tank during a visit to West Germany in 1986.
She asked: “When you were recently pictured, that famous photo opportunity, you were pictured in a tank weren’t you on a recent foreign trip.
“Were you aware when that photograph was taken, had you thought through how politically charged that image might be?
“[It’s] very, very similar to picture of Prime Minister Margret Thatcher in a similar situation. Had you you thought through what that image might mean?”
The politician went on to explain the meaning behind the memorable photograph following the brutal swipe the TV presenter made on the show.
She said: “The reason I was in that tank was I was with our troops in Estonia showing support for our troops and the work they’re doing protecting freedom on the boarders of Russia.
“And it is so important there are allies in the Baltic states, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, understand the UK are supporting them.
“And that’s what I was thinking about when I was visiting the troops when I went in our tank was showing our strong support for freedom and democracy in Eastern Europe and that’s what I’m focused on in my job.
“We face real threats to our way of life, we face aggressive regimes trying to undermine freedom and democracy and frankly that is a much bigger issue that we face as a country and that is my focus as Foreign Secretary.”
