Christine McGuinness to have 'chicken nuggets' on Christmas Day in wake of Paddy split

Christine McGuinness has revealed there may be a rather unorthodox offering on the dinner table this Christmas after a turbulent year dominated by a well-publicised split from her husband Paddy McGuinness.

The former Real Housewives of Cheshire star and presenter Paddy announced they were going their separate ways in July after 11 years of marriage. The pair share three children – nine-year-old twins Leo and Penelope, and Felicity, six.

All three kids have autism and remain unaware of the split, whilst 34-year old Christine diagnosed herself in 2021.

Despite their break-up, the family will be spending the festive season together with the former couple on ‘good terms’.

“That’s what the children are used to,” Christine explained to OK! Magazine. “We don’t know what the future holds or how it’s going to be moving forward, but we’ll try to keep things as normal as possible.

Christine McGuinness could well be having chicken nuggets on Christmas Day this year

“We’re amicable. I’m quite happy for him to be there with the children and it’s nice for them to see Mummy and Daddy just being alright. We can sit and have a cup of tea together and that’s fine.”

Christine explained that to make things easier in terms of the kids’ condition she will be making sure their routine isn’t upset too much during the Christmas celebrations.

The reluctance to try new foods is a common trait in autistic children, therefore she’ll be sticking to things the trio are used to rather than encouraging them to enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner.

“I don’t think they should have to fit in with tradition or what everybody else has,” she said. “I think your Christmas dinner should be whatever you’d like to eat and I want them to enjoy it,” she added. “If they want chicken nuggets and chips, then that’s what I’m going to give them.”

Christine confirmed that she is “amicable” with Paddy and is “quite happy for him to be there with the children,” as it is “nice to see Mummy and Daddy just being alright”.

She even admitted that they can “sit and have a cup of tea together” and be “fine”.

Christine doesn’t want her children to “be aware of anything other than them being happy” as they are all “so young and innocent”.

“I’m trying to just stick to their normal routine – take them to school in the morning, pick them up, try to work while they’re at school and take them to after-school clubs and just try to stick to normal life as much as possible,” she said.
