Coronation Street actress Rebecca Ryan has revealed that soap bosses had “no idea” that co-star Jack James Ryan was her brother when she landed the acting gig.
Rebecca, 30, who made her debut as Lydia Chambers in December was ecstatic when she found out she would be working alongside Jack who plays troublemaker Jacob Hay.
The actress also revealed that acting alongside her brother brought the duo closer together.
Lydia told The Mirror: “When I joined, I’d be talking to people and say, ‘Oh, yeah, my brother works here’. And they’d go, ‘Really, who’s your brother? What? Jack!
“It’s a dream come true to be working on the show at the same time, but it’s a total coincidence.”
The star also opened up about her relationship with her brother after he was diagnosed with testicular cancer five years ago at 20 years old.
She revealed: “It definitely brought us closer together. I would die for my brother. We’re best friends and it’s been like that ever since we were kids.
“We talk on the phone at least once a day and I feel so protective towards him. I was there for him through all his hospital appointments, but I felt so helpless.”
Jacob recently shared a sweet tribute to his co-star sister ahead of her nail-biting final scenes.
He penned: “Just caught up with #Corrie and I genuinely couldn’t be any prouder of my big sister tonight!
“She’s playing an absolute blinder, giving such dynamism and depth to the role.
“I’ll never get bored of seeing my big sister smashing it on the telly @RebeccaRyan1 @itvcorrie.”
The actress said goodbye to the cobbles following the exit of her character on Wednesday night (March 23).
Sharing a post of her standing next to the Weatherfield Gazette, she wrote: “That’s Lydia over and out!! I have had the most amazing time on the cobbles and it’s an experience that I will never forget!!”
Looking to the future,, the talented actress said she would like to appear in a period drama.
She said: “Something like Downton Abbey or Bridgerton or Sense and Sensibility.”
