EastEnders' biggest baby blunders – 'missing' umbilical cord gaffe to 'plastic' newborn

Baby storylines don’t always to go to plan in EastEnders.

Over the past 37 years, viewers have witnessed many Walford residents fall pregnant and give birth to an adorable bundle of joy.

While some go to plan, others can end up being complicated.

Eagle-eyed fans also seem to be not as forgiving when it comes to spotting a blunder during a birthing scene.

From Chelsea Fox’s “plastic” baby to a missing umbilical cord, there have been plenty of mishaps spotted by social media users.

Daily Star has taken a look at some of the glaring errors fans have spotted while watching the BBC One soap.

Chelsea’s ‘plastic’ baby

EastEnders viewers all said the same thing as they watched Chelsea go into premature labour and give birth to Gray Atkins’ baby.

Following the birth of their baby Jordan, who was named after Chelsea’s late brother, she went into a panic and asked if everything was okay with her newborn.

While the scenes were distressing, many viewers couldn’t help but notice how fake the baby looked in the episode as they took to Twitter to brand Jordan “plastic”

Fans were convinced they spotted a “plastic” baby

One person wrote: “When you’re properly engrossed in the episode then thefake baby makes you rupture something from laughing. That was shocking.”

Another said: “I appreciate they couldn’t use a real premature baby, however, that plastic doll was shocking! You can buy very realistic ‘reborns’. Did the budget not stretch to that?”

While a third added: “Why did #EastEnders even bother showing Chelsea’s baby?? The baby looked ridiculously fake, even Baby Born looked more real”.

Ruby steals baby scan

Fans were left scratching their heads as Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton) stole a pregnancy ultrasound scan from an expecting mother during her visit to the hospital.

The nightclub owner went for her first scan and she discovered that she was barely seven weeks pregnant.

However, her husband Martin Fowler (James Byw) believed she’s much further on with her pregnancy so she took drastic action in a bid to keep her dark secret under wraps for longer.

Viewers at home rushed to their keyboards to point out a huge mistake in Ruby’s plan which could see her get exposed in the near future.

Taking to Twitter, one fan moaned: “The scans literally have the mum’s name on don’t they? Ruby is so dumb.”

A second person pointed out: “Wouldn’t the woman’s name be at the top of the scan.”

While a third wrote: “Ruby does realise that it will be someone else’s name on the scan photo, so pointless stealing it.”

‘Missing’ umbilical cord

EastEnders fans couldn’t believe their eyes when Georgi gave birth to a baby that didn’t have an umbilical cord

EastEnders fans couldn’t believe their eyes when Georgi gave birth to a baby that didn’t have an umbilical cord.

Georgi, friend of Tina Carter’s daughter Zsa Zsa, went into labour while in the Queen Vic and, with help of Tina, her baby ended up arriving prematurely.

However, viewers were quick to point out that the newborn wasn’t attached to its mother.

One tweeted: “She’s just gave birth to a very clean baby without having to cut the umbilical cord.”

A second commented: “Ahh, another miracle baby born without an umbilical cord.

A third said: “A super clean baby without umbilical cord…Alien baby

A fourth quipped: “So, the baby with no umbilical cord was realistic.”

Sharon’s ‘old’ baby

Eastenders viewers were left unimpressed as Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) gave birth to her second child during the soap’s 35th anniversary week.

Her son Dennis Rickman Jr was killed just as she welcomed her baby boy into the world.

However, Sharon’s new son appeared to be delivered already cleaned up and not looking much like a newborn.

Some viewers rushed to social media to have their say, with Twitter and Facebook awash with comments from baffled fans.

“Sharon’s baby looks too old,” one fan said.

Another, though, had a more pressing fear, writing: “My biggest concern right now is Sharon and my second biggest is that baby.

“He’s come in to the world the day his brother left it and he will always be tainted to Sharon.

“I’m so worried that after such a traumatic pregnancy, she’s now going to struggle with motherhood.”

A third person said: “Sharon’s baby looks so big.”

‘Wrong name’ on hospital tag

The identification tag had the surname ‘Smith’ written across the white band around the baby Abi’s leg

Eagled-eyed EastEnders viewers spotted another on-screen blunder as Max and Lauren Branning visited the late Abi Branning’s newborn baby.

The identification tag had the surname ‘Smith’ written across the white band around the baby’s leg.

Abi’s surname was ‘Branning’ throughout the character’s 12-year stint on the popular soap.

The baby’s late father Steven Beale also wouldn’t match up with the name tag.

It’s unlikely that it was an intentional mix-up and viewers have flocked to Twitter to express disappointment in producers.

One disgruntled fan complained: “Love how EastEnders can’t maintain a story. Abi’s baby with the ‘Smith’ name tag!!!”

Another put: “Why has Abi’s baby’s hospital name tag got the name Smith on it? Did anyone else notice this?”

A third complained: “Such a shame Mr Continuity didn’t change the actual name tag on baby Branning to make her not a Smith.”

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One at 7.30pm
