Elton John has tested positive for Covid-19 and has had no choice but to cancel two concerts as a result.
The iconic singer, 74, was forced to step back from two events in Dallas, Texas, for his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour after he’d received a positive test – it was revealed on Tuesday.
A statement on behalf of the legendary hitmaker read: “It is with great regret that the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour dates in Dallas set for Tuesday, January 25 and Wednesday, January 26 must be postponed due to Elton recently testing positive for COVID-19.
“Fortunately, Elton is fully vaccinated and boosted, and is experiencing only mild symptoms. Fans should hold on to their tickets as they will be honoured at the rescheduled dates to be announced soon.”
The announcement finished: “Elton and the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour look forward to returning to the stage shortly.”
Last year, the I’m Still Standing chart topper resumed his long awaited tour after a two-year break – due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Just five days ago, Elton kick started the gigs once again and headed to New Orleans for the opening of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour.
In September of 2018 Elton delighted fans across the globe as he announced he would be returning to the road once more – before marking his retirement.
Like many others in the music industry, Elton’s momentous tour was placed on the back-burner until it was once again safe for folk to gather in large stadiums.
Having just got things going again, the flamboyant star has now suffered another major blow due to the coronavirus – having now tested positive himself.
While it was a tough call for the superstar who hopes to retire soon, he explained to devastated fans that their health meant the upmost to him.
He announced in a statement at the time: “The health of my fans is of the upmost importance to me, so I have made the decision to reschedule my upcoming #EltonFarewellTour shows between March 26th – May 2nd.”
It continued: “Unfortunately, as all of you know, there has been this awful pandemic…which is extremely worrying and extremely dangerous if we don’t take precautions.’
“I would encourage you to stay at home, do what everyone tells you to do, take precautions, because I want you to be as safe as possible.’
“When it is safe and when we can all enjoy ourselves together in the best possible circumstances.”
Fans who were lucky enough to purchase tickets for the cancelled tours have been told that they will be able to attend rescheduled dates which will be announced in due course.
