Emmerdale’s Meena Jutla could soon escape from police custody with the help of a very unlikely ally – Dr Liam Cavanagh.
With Meena being held for interrogations for the various crimes she committed – including the murder of Liam’s only daughter Leanna on her 18th birthday – Liam has been falling apart back in the village.
On Monday, he confessed to Cain that he’d thrown Meena off the same bridge Leanna had fallen to her death from, leaving fans terrified for his mental wellbeing.
But others are certain Liam could be the key to Meena’s downfall, as he helps to lead the police to key evidence which could pin her to her string of murders – her buried trophy box.
Liam later found the box and warned Cain not to touch anything in case the evidence ended up contaminated.
Taking to Reddit, one fan theorised: “After the ominous end speech by Liam at the end of Fridays episode, I can only come to conclusion: Liam and the Detective Sergeant will come together to let her escape and let her lead them to the trophy box or it turns into a murder on the Orient Express style conclusion.”
However, someone else argued: “His murder mystery skills seem pretty bad. I’d just put him in jail and leave it at that.”
As a third fan put in: “I dunno; Manpreet’s and his, cover story seemed pretty cohesive. He didn’t crack or falter with the story and under some pretty awful leading statement/questions from the plods.”
Another fan echoed: “He also near outright says he’ll take the law into his own hands directly to an officer, has no credibility in this situation and nor does Manpreet and did actually commit a crime here.”
Later in Monday’s episode, Manpreet explained how Meena would “take home” other people’s mannerisms – and admitted she only became a nurse because her sister went into the medical profession.
Vicar Charles, meanwhile, implied that he could get Meena to change her mind – and plead guilty to her crimes.
Meena was left raging in her police cell when her pleas to be let out went ignored by officers – and began allowing her true self to shine when she lost it and began railing to be allowed back to the interrogation room.
Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7pm on ITV.
