While there have been many heated feuds on-screen in Emmerdale, there have been a number of feuds involving the cast off-screen too.

Here, Daily Star takes a look at Emmerdale’s real-life rows.

Co-star affair

Kim Tate star Claire King and Bernice Blackstock actress Samantha Giles are both Emmerdale icons.

However, they have a long history together both on and off screen.

While playing Kim Tate, Claire met ex-husband Peter Amory, who played her stepson Chris Tate in the soap.

However, it was reported by The Mirror that their 10-year marriage broke down when it was revealed that Peter was having an affair with Samantha.

Talking to The Mirror in 2005, Claire said: “I questioned Pete and he admitted it had been going on for a while.

“He told me it was over but then it started again. At that point I said: ‘Well, you have to go with her then, because it obviously isn’t going to stop.'”

It is alleged that Claire had found out about the affair after Samantha’s first husband Nick Moore wrote to her to inform them of their relationship.

Speaking about the letter on Loose Women, Claire said that the affair was not Samantha’s fault.

“She wanted that second chance, and I’ve been in that situation with my marriage. And I gave my husband Pete a second chance,” she said.

“Two strikes you’re out. People remain within a relationship that really they shouldn’t sometimes and they could have got out. I think you have to move on and get on with your life.”

Claire continued: “I found out about it through a letter from the girl’s husband and my agent rang me saying ‘There are bits and pieces in the paper’. It wasn’t anything to do with her.”

However, Claire has said that she, Samantha and Peter are still close friends and are on good terms, telling The Mirror: “We were close and we’ll always be mates.”

However during the series, Roxanne took to the diary room after accusing Ryan of punching her.

The incident, which became known as “punch-gate”, saw Ryan given a formal warning by Big Brother bosses, but fans threw their support behind Ryan after cameras caught their exchange on screen, which saw the two stars play fighting.

Viewers submitted more than 11,000 complaints to Ofcom in support of Ryan, and Roxanne later apologised for “overreacting” towards the incident.

Speaking during an on-air interview with Celebrity Big Brother host Emma Willis, Roxanne added: “It’s a lot to deal with. I’m the most hated girl in Britain right now.

“I am scared about the future… I just want to say I’m sorry.”

She added: “I needed to come and tell everyone that I got it wrong. I’m human. I made a massive, massive, horrible mistake.”

Ryan later addressed the incident, with The Mirror reporting that he called for people to stop trolling Roxanne, claiming that he “would rather move on with his life than dwell on the past.”

Behind-the-scenes row

Matthew Wolfenden and Isobel Hodgins were reported to have had a heated row

During filming for Super Soap Week in 2021, it was reported that a heated row erupted behind the scenes, between David Metcalfe star Matthew Wolfenden and Victoria Sugden actress Isobel Hodgins.

The pair, who play lovers on-screen, were reported to have rowed while filming the dramatic waterfall stunt – with the incident reportedly witnessed by Aaron Anthony.

A source told The Sun on Sunday that the incident was “very heated,” adding: “Tempers were running very high. It was tense and bosses got to hear about what had gone on very quickly.”

While the publication reported that the cause of the argument was unclear, the source confirmed that the situation was resolved.

“They investigated the matter fully and are now satisfied that no further action is necessary. The actors are really professional.”

A spokesperson for Emmerdale also addressed speculation regarding the feud, saying in a statement: “While we would never comment on individual cases, Emmerdale has robust policies in place to deal with any allegations brought to our attention and take the appropriate steps. Neither actor has been suspended from Emmerdale.”

The two cast members also appeared to put the reported feud behind them, after being snapped together in a sweet Instagram post shared by their former co-star, and Matthew’s wife, Charley Webb.

She shared a snap of them with their arms wrapped around each other, with the cheeky comment: “The most annoying humans.”

Isabel later re-shared the post to her own account, saying: “We love you too hun @miss_charleywebb.”
