Gino D'Acampo furiously brands Michelin guides 'c**p' after star taken from restaurant

Celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo has called out the Michelin Guide’s star system, branding it “absolute nonsense” and “absolutely c***”.

The father-of-three, well known for his appearances on ITV’s This Morning, thinks that the world-famous grading system is a simple marketing ploy in an attempt to advertise to potential customers.

He told Cheshire Live: “I don’t believe in the Michelin star system. I think it is absolutely c***, because I cannot accept an organisation that knows less than me [can] judge me.”

He continued: “Most of the Michelin stars are absolute nonsense. It is the best marketing ever, but the worst idea ever, because if you think about it, you get judged by people who know less than you.”

Gino is less than impressed with Michelin’s grading system

The chef made a comparison between cuisines and said that he wouldn’t accept someone judging his food if they aren’t well versed in that particular area.

“I’ve been in Italian cuisine for 30 years. Are you telling me that you’re going to get some French guy, he is going to come here and he is going to sit in my restaurant and judge the way I cook? I don’t think so,” said an angry Gino.

He slammed the company for their star awards

His Chester Grosvenor restaurant recently lost its Michelin star, to which Gino said that the residents of Cheshire should “not think” about Michelin because they are a “nobody”.

The television chef then joked that he could “come up with s*** like that tomorrow” and call it the “Gino Star”.

He then asked “who is he to judge” someone that has been working in Chinese cuisine for most of their working life, which he said “makes no sense whatsoever”.

D’Acampo ended by saying that he is “not interested” in being judged by “someone who knows less than him” and is “not interested” in restaurants with a Michelin star.

He said that it “upsets” him when a friend of his gets a star taken away.

D’Acampo is a successful Italian chef and runs restaurants around the UK, including Luciano’s and 360 Sky Bar in Liverpool.

In January, five of his branded restaurants closed down along with three My Pasta bars, which were based in London.
