Coronation Street's Maggie Fox dies in 'sudden accident' and family 'in state of shock'

Coronation Street star Maggie Fox has died following a “sudden accident”.

The TV star passed away surrounded by her heartbroken family.

Maggie’s close pal Sue Ryder said her nearest and dearest are in a “state of shock”.

Taking to Facebook, Sue posted: “: “It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of Maggie Fox, my comedy partner of 40 years and co-Artistic Director of LipService.

“Maggie passed away yesterday with her family around her.

“As you can imagine I am completely heartbroken.

She added: “We are still all in a state of shock as this was very sudden following an accident.”

Details of the accident are yet to be revealed.

Maggie appeared in two roles in Corrie during her 40-year-long career, most notably as Ruth Audsley in 2001.

The character got involved when Roy (David Neilson) and Hayley Cropper (Julie Hesmondhalgh) went on the run with their foster child Wayne Hayes.

She later appeared in 2010 as Judge Travers in the case between waring sisters Kylie Turner (Paula Lane) and Becky McDonald (Katherine Kelly).

The pair were in the dock fighting for custody over Kylie’s son Max Turner.

Ruth was best known for her role as Bilson on ITV period drama The Forsyte Saga and appearing as a registrar in Channel 4 show Shameless.

Fans have since taken to social media to remember the star following the tragic news.

One fan penned: “So sad to hear the news about Maggie Fox from @LipServicetour.

“I had the pleasure of working with her & she was such a wonderful lady.

“Even had the honour of sharing the stage with her once in a cameo as a Ninja in the fab Jane Bond. My thoughts are with Sue & Maggie’s family.”

Another added: “Really sorry to hear about the death of Lipservice’s Maggie Fox. I know how well loved she is in Manchester in particular. She will be sorely missed.”

A third person posted: “Incredibly sad to hear this news about the brilliant Maggie Fox. Much love to Sue and their families x”

While a fourth social media user said: “So sad to hear of the loss of Maggie Fox from Lip Service.

“A hilarious comedy duo from Manchester. Managed to make us cry with laughter when my sister was so very ill. No mean feat that. RIP Maggie and thanks for the laughs @LipServicetour.”
