Harry Potter star Tom Felton has opened up about the “secret love” he had for Emma Watson.
The 35-year-old, who soared to fame playing antagonist Draco Malfoy in the beloved movie franchise, spoke about the on-set friendship he shared with the Hermione Granger actress in his new autobiography, Beyond the Wand.
Rumours of romance have plagued the pair for years and the actor couldn’t have spoken more highly of his co-star as he reflected on their two decade-long relationship which deepened into something special.

He explained in his new memoir that even his girlfriend at the time knew “there was something unspoken” between them during the early Harry Potter films.
He wrote: “I remember using the familiar old line, ‘I love her like a sister.’ But there was more to it than that.
“I don’t think I was ever in love with Emma, but I loved and admired her as a person in a way that I could never explain to anybody else… we were kindred spirits. I know for certain I’ll always have Emma’s back and she’ll always have mine too.”
The actor explained that the pair have formed a deep and lifelong bond, however their relationship didn’t get off to the best start when they met aged nine and 11 and at audition.
“She pointed at a boom mic in the room and asked, ‘What’s that?’ and he told her: ‘It means they are recording us, obviously’,” he explained in his memoir, adding that he would’ve forgiven the Little Women actress if she didn’t want anything to do with him.
The Harry Potter villain detailed the clique he was in along with other Slytherin actors who spent their time having cigarette breaks and listening to rap music while on set.
He explained: “A message was passed on that Miss Watson, who played Hermione Granger, had put together ‘a little dance show in her dressing room that she wanted to present it to us at lunchtime… we were predictably dismissive’.
“We sniggered our way down to Emma’s show and the sniggers grew louder as she danced. We were just being s***** boys, largely out of awkwardness and because we thought taking the p*** was cool. I did feel like a bit of a d**k, and rightly so.”
He added: “In the end, it was up to one of the hair and make-up ladies to tell me what was what.”
But he clarified: “I’ve always had a secret love for Emma, though not perhaps in the way that people might want to hear. That isn’t to say that there’s never been a spark between us. There most definitely has, only at different times.”
Later in the memoir, he spoke about denying his true feelings towards the actress when romance rumours began circulating.
He revealed: “Rumours started to abound that there was more to our relationship than we were letting on. I denied that I liked her in that way, but the truth was different.”
Emma recently gushed over her feelings towards her former cast member, calling him her “soulmate” in a sweet tribute.
