Britain’s biggest TV stars are getting ready to attend the highly anticipated National Television Awards, which are set to take place tonight.
The awards were originally means to go ahead on September 15, but were postponed following the death of the Queen. The rescheduled event will now take place at the Wembley Arena as its broadcast live on ITV.
There’s a star-studded list of nominees up for awards, from Bridgerton’s Jonathan Bailey to UK national treasure David Attenborough.
But two very familiar nominees won’t be making it to the show tonight — Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly.
Despite having won an astonishing number of NTAs, the beloved presenting duo won’t be in attendance tonight.
How many times have Ant and Dec won best presenter?
Ant and Dec have won the TV presenter award at the National Television Awards a massive 20 times, making history with their 20th consecutive win last year.
The presenters have spent two decades racking up the awards. Addressing the audience after last year’s momentous win, Ant spoke about how much things have changed since they were first crowned winners.
He said: “We were talking in the car on the way here and the first year we won an NTA, Tony Blair was the prime minister and Newcastle United qualified for the Champions League. It just goes to show how long ago it was.
“But do you know what? This one means the most. Twenty years. This is really, really special. You have no idea how special this is.”
This year they’re nominated for the award yet again and are up against Alison Hammond, Bradley Walsh and Graham Norton.
Despite not being there, Ant and Dec will still be looking to clinch their 21st consecutive win, but NTA host Joel Dommett has hinted that this could be the year they miss out, with Alison proving a strong competitor.
Dommett told MailOnline: “Alison is very popular… it could be the year for Alison to break Ant and Dec’s streak.
“For me it’s a win-win situation and I’m sure it is for them as well.”
Why aren’t Ant and Dec at the NTAs tonight?
Unfortunately, despite their long-running record of success at the NTAs, Ant and Dec will be missing out on this year’s awards ceremony.
The hosting duo have been forced to pull out of attending the prestigious awards show after coming down with Covid-19.
Sharing pictures of their matching positive tests to their social media, the pair joked: “Sadly, it’s true… We even get ill together!”
They also confirmed that they wouldn’t be able to attend tonight’s NTAs, adding: “After feeling unwell a few days ago we both tested and we’re positive for Covid. We’re resting up at home and are so sorry we can’t be at #NTAs2022 Best of luck everyone and get well soon to anyone else in the same boat x.”
