Michael Douglas, 78, gushes over wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, 53, in cute snap

Hollywood actor Michael Douglas has shared a sweet message for his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones on their wedding anniversary.

Michael took to Instagram to share a throwback snap of the iconic duo on their wedding day and left her a loving wish in the caption.

He wrote: “Happy anniversary to my darling Catherine! I love you so much,” before he tagged the actress’ Instagram account, added a red heart emoji and the hashtag “22 years”.

The sweet snap showed the Hollywood stars at their lavish wedding in New York City at the Plaza Hotel back in 2000.

Catherine stunned in a low cut white dress with a flattering scoop neckline and thick shoulder straps.

She wore a long white veil that covered her shoulders and a bejewelled silver tiara on top of a classy up-do.

Zeta-Jones wore minimal, glowing makeup with red lipstick for a pop of colour.

Her new husband Michael sat beside her, wearing a crisp white shirt and a black suit, as the pair beamed from ear to ear behind bunches of colourful flowers.

Underneath, Douglas added another picture of the acting couple as they kissed each other in a loving embrace.

Michael and Catherine have been together for over two decades

Michael is 25 years Catherine’s senior but that didn’t stop him making a beeline for his future wife back in the early nineties.

Catherine spoke to Larry King in 2001 and explained: “We met in 1996 at the Deauville Film Festival. I think it was 1996! I had been told that Michael Douglas wanted to meet me. I was a little nervous because I didn’t quite know what he wanted to meet me about.”

The pair were introduced at a private function and hit it off straight away, but Michael got a little too excited and told Catherine that he was going to be the father of her children.

The now 78-year-old sent her flowers to apologise and they started a friendship which then blossomed into something more.

She continued to tell King: “Nine months later, I’m still having conversations with him on the phone, having great dinner dates, constantly wondering: ‘Why are we not together?’”

Eventually, they started seeing each other romantically and Douglas proposed to her on New Year’s Eve 1999 with a ring worth $1million (£845k).
