Comedy legend and Hollywood star Mike Myers has hinted that his secret agent alter-ego Austin Powers might be making a comeback for a fourth film.
The news comes ahead of Mike Myers making a cameo appearance as Austin Power’s nemesis Dr Evil during an advert for General Motors at the 2022 Super Bowl, which will see the star reunite with Austin Powers cast members including Rob Lowe, Seth Green and Mindy Sterling.
Speaking on The Today Show in America, the Waynes World and Bohemian Rhapsody star explained that he would love to make a fourth Austin Powers film, saying: “I would love to do one. Yeah, yeah, yeah.”
He then teased that a fourth film could possibly be in production, by adding: “We’ll see. I can neither confirm nor deny the existence or non-existence of such a program, should it exist or not exist.”
While news of a fourth Austin Powers film has not yet been confirmed, Mike Myers has previously revealed that he has an idea for a story in mind.
In 2018, the star said in an interview that he would love to make an Austin Powers film from the viewpoint of villain Dr Evil.
If a fourth film is confirmed, it will see the James Bond film parody return to our cinema screens for the first time in over 20 years.
The last outing for the character was in 2003’s Gold Member, opposite music icon Beyonce, which grossed over £218 million at the global box office.
It followed a highly successful series of films including Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and its sequel, The Spy Who Sh****d me, which were released in 1997 and 1999, and made £49.9m and £230m respectively.
Mike Myers has largely stayed out of the limelight for the past decade, aside from a few cameo appearances, but recently announced that he is due to work with Netflix on a new TV series that is currently in production.
The star rose to fame during the eighties with regular guest slots on Saturday Night Live, where he continued to make appearances, as well as starring in huge Hollywood films including Waynes World.
He is also widely associated with being the voice of the iconic animated character Shrek, and most recently appeared in the 2018 Academy Award winning Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody as Ray Foster.
