Naga Munchetty mortified after asking pal to 'Netflix and chill' in 'booty call' slip-up

Naga Munchetty was mortified when she confessed how she accidentally invited someone over to “Netflix and Chill” blissfully unaware of the hidden sexual meaning.

During the 46-year-old’s BBC Radio 5 Live show, the BBC Breakfast broadcaster caught up with a language expert as they discussed the origin of certain popular idioms and how certain common phrases came to be when she had a startling realisation.

Throughout the show she talked to her loyal legion of fans about their favourite phrases and unusual sayings that seemed to confuse others depending on their age demographic.

But it was her catch-up with lexicographer and language expert Terry Victor who brought up the internet slang term “Netflix and Chill.”

While she discussed the common phrase with the caller, podcast host Terry informed the BBC Breakfast host how the initially innocent phrase is often used as a euphemism for casual sex.

However, the common phrase was lost on Naga, who confessed how she had been taking the simple phrase literally until she learnt about its alternative meaning during Wednesday’s show.

Discussing the impact that internet slang has had on the English language, Victor said: “It’s like the Netflix and Chill’ popped up. That’s a phrase that people now understand.”

Unaware of its hidden meaning, she innocently asked: “Doesn’t it mean relax?” as Victor explained: “Yeah, well the relaxing is very intimate. You come round to somebody’s house for a Netflix and Chill.”

Shocked at the revelation, Naga exclaimed: “Oh! Oh my goodness. So it’s like a date? Or a booty call?”

To which he replied: “Yes, it’s like a booty call. I think that’s the way you’d put it. A booty call” before he hastily steered the conversation onto another topic.

The star admitted she had invited many friends over using the phrase in the past unaware of it’s implications

As she brought the show to the end, the star confessed how enlightening the show had been, saying she’d had “such an education this morning.”

It was at this point that Naga confessed how she had asked several of her friends to come over using the common phrase for many years as she recalled the moment the term was explained to her on air.

She revealed to listeners: “I’m sure I’ve invited someone to come over for Netflix and to chill out.”
