The Netflix series The Crown is planning to air controversial scenes showing Prince Philip having an affair – this coming just weeks after the Queen passed away.
The shocking and “fictional” storylines show the late husband of Queen Elizabeth II having a dalliance with close family friend Penny Knatchbull.
Penny, also known as Countess Mountbatten of Burma, 69, was a real-life friend of the royals and attend Her Majesty’s funeral last month.

It is thought that the streaming giant was planning to pause the release of series five of The Crown but instead, it is going ahead on November 9.
Prince Philip is played by Jonathan Pryce, 75, and will be seen touching hands with Penny and divulging details of his marriage to her, discussing “problems” and how he and the Queen have “grown in separate directions”.
The Queen’s former press secretary Dickie Arbiter has called the plan to air the show “distasteful” and “cruel rubbish”.
He told The Sun: “The truth is that Penny was a long-time friend of the whole family. Netflix is not interested in people’s feelings.”
Prince Philip was said to have become a close friend to Penny after her daughter Leonora died of kidney cancer aged five.
Majesty magazine editor Ingrid Seward added: “It’s in exceedingly bad taste.
“This is fiction. There’s no way in a million years he’d discuss his marriage with anybody.
“The royals probably won’t watch it for their own sanity.”
The Crown has previously come under fire by royal experts for exaggerating real-life events such as King Charles’ affair with Camilla and the late Princess Diana’s bombshell interview with Martin Bashir.
In other Netflix news, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are believed to be desperately trying to cram in some last-minute edits to their own documentary, which also airs soon.
There may be content that would be considered insensitive to air so soon after the Queen’s sudden death so it is believed the pair are trying to delay its release or make some changes.
After “Megxit”, the pair signed a multi-million dollar deal with Netflix.
