Oti Mabuse breaks silence on Strictly co-star appearing on The Masked Dancer

Oti Mabuse says she would struggle to recognise one of her Strictly co-stars if they appeared on The Masked Dancer.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star is back on screens tonight (September 3) as the hit ITV show returns for its second series.

Oti, 32, will join the likes of Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross and Peter Crouch as they judge the latest round of celebrities ready to take to the stage in their extravagant costumes.

But while Oti’s co-stars believe her Strictly knowledge may give her the upper hand when guessing who is behind the mask, she doesn’t agree and thinks it makes it harder for her.

Speaking at the TV Entertainment Schedule Launch, the South African dancer said: “I don’t think I’d be able to tell whether it is [one of them]. There are so many people connected to you [Davina], and me actually but I don’t think I’d be able to tell.”

She added: “But that is the fun part, the reaction.”

To help the judges figure out who they are, the celebrities behind the masks give clues about their identities, which is where Oti thinks TV talk show host Jonathan will benefit.

“I think that’s Jonathan because Jonathan’s job is to know people, know what they’ve done in their career,” the Dancing on Ice judge explained.

Former Big Brother host Davina pointed out that Oti would know who has prior dancing experience.

She replied: “But not a lot of them…” before adding: “One of them has never ever danced before, and they learned to dance on The Masked Dancer, which is incredible.”

The judging panel have already finished filming for this series of The Masked Dancer and Oti admitted that keeping the identities of the celebrity’s a secret is something she finds difficult.

“I find it hard when you’re talking about them like in moments like this to not reveal the gender,” the Greatest Dancer captain added.

She went on to say: “That is so difficult when you go this character…he and you’re like, ‘Oh no!'”
